I'm assuming we got well armed drone attack craft to make that worthwhile? Otherwise we could probably add around a dozen phaser arrays and a bunch of VLS torpedo tubes in the volume/surface area gained by filling the hole and probably a bunch of shield generators as well....hmmm maybe have two variants just entering service when the Dominion War kicks off if we start building them immediately once we're allowed to in 2370. Also are we allowed to build other designs come 2370?
It has drones for days. Like several Airwings worth of drones. You can build all the other designs post 2370.

I meant other designs than the ones you listed like for example ones based on the Saber,Akira, and Prometheus classes. As for the drones I'm guessing they're hauling a decent load out of torpedoes and a couple phase cannons that are powerful for the size of the drone.

I went for the Vengeance. Vessels of exploration and other hippy nonsense is nice, but the Federation needs battleships to properly bludgeon its neighbours into line whenever they get uppity (the Romulans need a good spanking from time to time).

On the topic of capital ships, and forgive me for being a Star Trek neophyte, I've always wondered about the total lack of Fleet Carriers. Are fighter craft just not that useful in the Star Trek verse?

We see fighters in the Dominion War. They had to be built to augment the Fed fleet due to the loses that Starfleet took.

Wouldn't they be useful in the first place as a screening force for fleet encounters? I presume they weren't launched from dedicated carriers.

I'd build the Valiant first, mostly to make sure that it's possible to even build ships with these future tech designs.

Once that's proven out, build Andromedas and Pathfinders.

I'm tempted to build a limited number of Vengeance class ships for defending core worlds/crucial forward operating areas, but only after the Borg attack in BOBW. My aim would be to mitigate the coming Dominion attacks and help defend DS9 once the Federation retakes it.

Andromeda class. It is a good mid range vessel and we can build it in numbers to not only explore space but do combat patrols of the Romulan and Klingon borders.
