For the most "bloody and cruel regime imaginable", the Imperium strikes me more as the NCR of Fallout New Vegas in an eldritch horror setting: they're the "we're doing our best" faction.

I mean, so much criticism of the Imperium relies on removing them from the context they exist in that it's hilarious. Not to mention that the BL blurb isn't even accurate in-universe, given that Commorragh and the EoT exist.

Not mention fact, that IoM and rest started as tabletop game where only demans was that figurines must be cool and fight in melee.
Many authors created impressive world from that - but we could not expect much from world made from tabletop game.
It is not Tolkien, where author first worked 20 years on Silmarillion, and ten created Hobbit.

WH40 started with figurines for Hobbit, and ten they started wrote first Hobbit, then LOTR,and Silmarillion in the end.

I’d say the Old Republic. Just for its long lasting nature.

Was formed(in the old EU) in 25,053 BBY. Dissolved in 19 BBY.

That’s 25,034 years.

That is an epic scale of you really think about it.

And it was a human dominated polity, but was also very diverse. It survived countless wars and disasters, a take over from a fanatical religious sect, a thousand year period of war and dark age, and many wars between core worlds.

Apparently it fell and rose several times in those intervening years.

I think the Humanx commonwealth is pretty good. Humanity with its bro race colonizing the stars. It has the hopeful , wanting peace feel of startrek without being outright naive or blindly idealistic.

Yes its the one with the thranx(bug race) and cutthroat, ruthless Aan lizard race
Thanks.Good idea - insectoid aliens almost always come to eat us,so using them as reasonable guys was smart.
P.S mangas would use them as cute girls, but they do that even to Nyanthrop from Chultu mythos.Pity, that WH40 and SW was not turned into manga - it would be fun to see version when everybody is cute girl for harem owned by bullied japaneese boy.

Mine is Federated Suns in the BattleTech. And honestly at first I liked them for their dedication to combined arms tactic. But later on I came to appreciate fairly hands off treatment of their worlds and citizens, being an even handed mix of freedoms (unlike their neighbors) and efficiency (unlike FWL). In general, fairly good place to live, even if some worlds are rather poor.

As a Davion fanboy, I’d point out that it really varies from world to world. Obviously you have as close to paradise as possible on, say, New Avalon or Argyle, but a lot of the Outback worlds are as bad as the Periphery. Still, I would opt for one of the core or golden worlds as a good place to live. Terra under the Blakists...oy.

One other government that I actually wouldn’t mind is the Earth Alliance from Babylon 5. The Clark era notwithstanding, it was generally very relatable and recognizable as a fairly normal human society.

There is a plenty of interspecies WH40K porn on the internet. Personally, I stand with Black Templars on this issue.

Not porn- i knew it exist and i am not interested.Mangas where characters are turned into innocent cute girls fighting over bullied boy. When everything we could see would be kiss at best. And i wanted that, becouse it would be funny to watch.

Clan Wolverine of course... even after that rough treatment of some bits of it in Betrayal of Ideals. But at least the story was told, and still told pretty well by Blaine Pardoe. And of course, the real person to blame for denying the rebirth of the Star League is Nicholas Kerensky. :p

anime which turn Nyanthrop into cute girl was Haijore! Nyaruko-san - and they are actual entire race of friendly aliens.Pretty hillarious - that is i why i still want WH40 turned into anime. To see friendly orks, chaos, tyranids and necrons as cute girls aiming for japanesse boys. And getting kisss at best,or nothing.

There are a few good ones. I like the old republic before it became corrupt and allowed Palpatine to take over but the Empire does look cooler, so the next choice is the Empire from LOGH and while Reinhard is a good leader there isn’t much stopping the new empire from eventually becoming degenerate like the Goldenbaum dynasty. That means I’m going with the Federation because it’s a republic that is well run.

Specifically the Terran Federation from Starship Troopers a conservative paradise that will always maintain the martial virtues of the early Roman Republic and early frontier America. It isn’t a monarchy that will give power to an idiot because of an accident of birth but it also denies universal suffrage which will lead to hedonism and liberalism as only the virtuous are allowed power and the military is willing to use its full force on liberal traitors like peace protestors.

Oh OP while warhammer empire is based on Holy Roman Empire the Imperium is not the only thing they share is being called an empire. Ironically the Empire and HRE is decentralized while the Imperium is actually centralized.
