In rough order of command authority...
Captain: Captain
Sarah McEvedy (Battletech)
- Though not from a canine Clan, the Skunk Bears were pretty close. Born and raised the United States on Earth, Sarah McEvedy part of the subset of Earth Starfleet officers who have a decidedly more military background and viewpoint. Despite her emphasis on the military and tactical however, Sarah McEvedy is also a strong believer in the ideas of the Federation including free thinking and democracy. She is a stringent believer in constant improvement through training, technology and bringing innovative Federation values of adaptability and ingenuity to her starship operations. Her own strong sense of morals and honor influences everything she does.
First Officer: Commander
Jeanette Deveraux (Wing Commander)
- A native of Belgium on Earth, Jeanette Deveraux was and still is considered a famously skilled pilot and helmswoman. A serious, by the book officer, she is calm, cool and unflappable. She possessed an excellent battlefield awareness and had a naturally analytical nature, preferring to rely on reason and rational concepts then relying on 'instinct.' As a leader she was considered a bit cold, even dispassionate but what she lacked in open camaraderie was replaced by her constant passion for pushing those under her to improve themselves. Her professional and taciturn nature turned out to be just as inspiring.
Tactical Officer: Lieutenant Commander
Samantha Carter (Stargate SG-1)
- Another Starfleet Officer hailing from the United States and a skilled helmswoman herself, Samantha Carter could've chosen the senior position in any department of the Federations flagship thanks to her excellent service record both in the science and tactical division but ultimately chose the role of tactical officer, realizing that she could still apply her vast scientific knowledge to the ships primary mission of exploration since tactical operations would only be a secondary role on this deployment. She'll see this as another step up to command of her own starship in the near future.
Doctor: Lieutenant-Commander
Mordin Solus (Mass Effect)
- A Salarian hailing from the Federation Planet of Sur'kesh, Doctor Mordin Solus is a brilliant Doctor and Geneticist. Though he never attended Starfleet Academy, Dr. Solus attended an equivalent if not superior medical and government program on Sur'kesh. Prior to being assigned to Starfleet, Dr. Mordin Solus led Salarian Science Teams and Special Task Forces who were charged with dealing with all manners of biological threats and dangers. Though his passion is endless research on the big medical crisis that threaten the galaxy, Dr. Solus is also driven by a desire to practice medicine on a more personal level as well, finding an appeal in just 'healing' people while still never giving up on his countless research projects. His placement on this Federation flagship was seen as a lucrative opportunity to pursue both of those passions.
Security Officer: Lieutenant
Cassandra Anderson (Dredd)
- Cassandra Anderson is a telepathic mutant born on a Mega Hive City on a failed colony world. She lost her parents at an early age to radiation induced cancer and spent her youth evading drug addled rape gangs, she eventually volunteered to join one of the most militant government militias on the planet whose goal was to arbitrate justice. Despite her skills and natural intellect, she failed her aptitude tests and would never rise to the higher ranks of the colonies Arbiters and thus took the first opportunity to leave the colony and entered Starfleet. Despite her violent and dangerous upbringing, Cassandra is a thoughtful individual and has applied her life experiences to her Starfleet education and complimented with her telepathy, has proven an excellent asset to oversee this starships security.
Chief Engineer: Chief
Bao-Dur (Star Wars: KOTOR)
- He is from an independent Iridonian colony, his planet was devastated by a militaristic species. Bao-Dur soon joined Starfleet independent, initially as an Enlisted Crewmember. His literal genius with technology including his assistance in the development of many weapons, shields and other accessories soon had him rocketing through the enlisted ranks and landed him on a fast track to Chief Engineer of one of the Federations flagships. Further showing his ingenuity, during one battle he actually lost his arm in combat but soonafter designed a replacement arm based off of repulsor technology. He is often soft spoken and mild mannered, with a light personality prone to dry wit and a sarcastic sense of humor. He is a deeply conscientious individual.
Science Officer: Lieutenant
Winston (Overwatch)
- He's a super intelligent, genetically engineered gorilla. Personality wise he is an awkwardly gentle giant who tends to be violence averse though far from a pacifist. Like Bao-Dur, he was placed on this crew because of his even more exceptional nature and the diverse crew would look great on pamphlets. Don't call him a monkey.
Operations Officer: Lieutenant
Curie (Fallout 4)
- Curie started off as the casual experiment of a rogue corporations science team as they modified a robot assistances computerized intelligence with ever increasingly and greater amounts of operational freedom so it could conduct its own experiments. The basis of her personality was derived from several of the head scientists ex-girlfriends including fellow female scientists and a French girl he had a fling with. Also entire databanks were uploaded to her. Eventually the robot, named 'Curie' was eventually treated as a Human like any other member of the science team. Unfortunately tragedy struck as the planet the corporation resided on was destroyed by a total atomic conflict, leaving her trapped within the science lab. She was trapped in the research lab for the next eight decades, until discovered by Federation explorers. During her time sequestered underground, she developed a concept for a synthetic humanoid body she could upload herself into and with Federation assistance, was able to transfer her artificial consciousness to the synthetic humanoid body. She became the second artificial intelligence to attend and graduate Starfleet, after that other single name android...
Counselor: Lieutenant Shepherd
Derrial Book (Serenity/Firefly)
- This might be the only ship in Starfleet that carries something close to resembling a Chaplain. Though he fulfills an official role on the ship as its Counselor, much of his past is still an open question even to the command staff. Though the Federation is rather secular and religious belief, much less an openly religious Counselor is quite rare, Derrial Books' genial and sagacious nature has been considered an asset for the crew, while his mysterious past has proven quite the distraction for many to ponder about. Despite his fundamental Christian beliefs, Shepherd Book is considered quite the 'Humanist' for lack of a better term when he provides counsel.
Communications Officer: Ensign
Isabel "Dizzy" Flores (Starship Troopers)
- Ensign Flores hailed from Buenos Aires, which was tragically destroyed by the Bug/Parasite menace in 2364 while she was attending Starfleet Academy. Her combat, security and tactical marks were superb and she was a legendary athlete both in secondary school and at Starfleet. She took the role of Communications Officer eagerly, not due to her linguistic background but because of an affinity for tinkering with both advanced and obsolete communications equipment and because she wanted to serve with the best. She's feisty!
Helm/Conn: Ensign
Kara Thrace (Battlestar Galactica)
- Hailing from a Fleet family, the only thing that interested Kara more then Fleet service was sports. Hailing from the once lost early generational Human colony of Caprica, Kara Thrace was a pyramid player of some renown and due to her spotty academic record, had a tough choice between service in Starfleet or turning pro. Unfortunately chronic injuries prevented her from pursuing a professional pyramid player career and she enlisted in Starfleet instead and fell in love with flight school. Around the same time she found a deep loathing for even the relaxed protocol of Starfleet. Often reviled by her superiors for her attitude, her skills and brash personality allowed her to continue her career and her exceptional abilities landed her here.
Civilian Morale Officer/Bartender:
Michael Garibaldi (Babylon 5)
- Having lived an extremely colorful and complicated life, Michael Garibaldi operates the bar and restaurant aboard the starship. With an extensive background career with United Earth Force and Starfleet Security and Intelligence before briefly dabbling into a private career, Michael Garibaldi seems to be one of the few people who can consider the idea of resigning himself to a five year exploration mission as a 'break' or 'vacation.' An excellent cook, he possesses a lively sense of humor and a laid back, casual demeanor. He is an aficionado of both drinks and fine cigars, though both are of the safer synthetic variety. Unlike the Ship Counselor, much of Garibaldi's prior history is known and despite his status as a civilian, he's often 'consulted' informally by much of the ships crew day to day. He still keeps a Phased Plasma Assault Rifle under the counter just in case of emergencies. RIP.
Replaceable Ensign: Ensign
Alyx Vance (Half Life)
- Half Life 3 confirmed.
Replaceable Ensign: Crewmen 1st Class
Seamus Harper (Andromeda)
- A naturally brilliant tinkerer and engineer with a plethora of nerdy and geeky habits, Crewman 1st Class Seamus Harper's main role on this starship is for many fans to superimpose their own desires and lusts into his sympathetic point of view and thus facilitate the creation of numerous Harem fanfics and fapfics to help grow the popularity of the show and even if less then successful, propagate a healthy cult following to sustain the series as long as possible if not on syndication, then one of many streaming services.
I obviously didn't try to pick the best command crew... but I think they should provide an easy seven seasons of both stand alone episode stories and various character based story arcs. Every character is from a different franchise for maximum diversity. The Captain and First Officer on their own aren't exceptionally compelling characters but I wanted to fill out the rest of the roster with far more interesting personalities who can operate under the firm aegis of the two (contrasting) professional officers. Plus there's a nice division between the researchers and the military types but the latter don't seem too obstructionist for the former. I also slanted for a female heavy crew in order to get those social justice points. So double win for me when the harem fapfics are written by this new series legion of fans.
