If it's any consolation, my dad and I held out hope my grandfather (who lived to be 96) would make it to just plain 100, whereas this guy left us as a full-fledged supercentenarian!
But yeah, sad to see him go, no matter how much nitpicking over age the demographers and we "young folk" like to preoccupy ourselves with. RIP, Mikizo Ueda.
Yeah, it's quite interesting: I had a great-uncle who lived to 95 and an in-law (this specific great-uncle's son's wife's father) who lived to age 100, but most of my relatives died in their 80s or earlier.
