Fallout Fallout General Thread - War, War Never Changes. Nor do game engines.

Going to bitch about FO1-2 for a change because they aren't perfect.

Some weapons, especially in FO2 are just fucking dogshit. The FAL is okay but it's ammo is super rare and not very powerful, meaning it's not at all reasonable to use. The M60 uses the same ammo and is even less viable because of this.

Greasegun and Tommygun are also both shit for similar reasons, 10mm SMG is comparable and P90C uses more common ammo despite doing way more damage.

Finally the 14mm pistol, which was 'okay' in FO1 got giga nerfed as ammo modifiers now actually function in FO2, meaning it's only ammo type (14mm AP) does halved damage by default.

AP in general sucks because somehow somebody screwed up the maths so bad that 'bullets that increase enemy armor' can overcome the armor by sheer damage output, while AP no matter how much penetration, sucks.

God that bothered me so much.

For some context.

FO1's small guns capped out with the .223 pistol, which while it's an excellent gun really did not compare to the Turbo plasma rifle, so the 'meta' was to go into energy weapons late in the game.

FO2 tweaked this by adding some new top tier weapons for every category, small guns got gauss weapons, and energy weapons got pulse weapons.

Gauss rifles/pistols were deadly accurate, hit like a truck and let you use your established small-guns skill to take on end-tier threats with ease, while Pulse weapons were complete powerhouses which weren't particularly accurate but overshadowed the plasma weapons. Pulse was also way harder to find, like...One or two locations tops.

The FO3 comes along and uhh, it's small guns don't really have a 'top tier' weapon. Maybe the sniper rifle or lincoln's repeater? But absolutely nothing as powerful as a gauss rifle. Until finally they DID add a new model of gauss rifle! Annnnnnnnnd because Bethesda is either too lazy to add a new ammo type, or simply misunderstands how gauss weapons work, it's operated by energy cells so it's an energy weapon. It's Bethesda, give them a pass I guess?

NV launches and they actually re-use the FO3 model, with some tweaks and because Obsidian is Obsidian they do the damned same mistake, making it powered with energy cells so it has to be classified as an energy weapon! They could've added the gauss pistol and 2mm EC cartridges but nooooooooooooooooooooo!

The shocking thing is Bethesda outshined NV in FO4, with the Gauss rifle being a 'gun' again. But in usual Bethesda fashion for FO4 they designed the gun out of tuna cans, spare parts and garbage so there's no way it'd work.

The weapon aesthetics were really crappy in FO4 too. Like they were impressively bad. This mod here uses the same art style but does it right.

Mods that just add a shitload of cringe OC weapons by the modder kinda upset me. Those look like they belong in, I dunno, Halo or something, not Fallout.
Why not just mod in the AK-112? NV's anti materiel rifle? Or any other canon weapon?
I mean I 'know' why they add those cringe weapons, but I digress.

Those weapons are all based on previous Fallout weapons like the SMG is obviously a P-90 but one that matches the FO4 art style the IF-54 is clearly the AK-112 ect

Nuh. AK-112 has design elements of wooden stocked AR series of rifles, the IF-54 looks patterned after AK (IRL ones) style of rifles. :V

Also it fails basic weapon design by having the fucking gas tube being on the same side of the magazine, eughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. X_X

P90 SMG is sort of P90-like, but...It's still just so different as to barely look similar. X_X

Thing is those are those weapons just just made in a way to fit with the existing FO4 art style

EDIT: Like here is the IF-54 totally not a AK-112 I promise you bro.

Not bad, although as usual the miniguns are way too fucking big. The thing is chambered in 5mm so it should be microgun in scale. And the vindicator is in 4.7mm caseless so it should be even more compact.

Realistically the term for them should be 'microguns'.

Honestly a minigun that uses 5mm bullets is fucking retarded my headcannon is that it's actually an autocannon and uses like 20mm shells a 5mm is smaller than a damn .22

How is 5mm a bad choice for a man portable rotary gun? If anything it's actually the sort of cartridge you would need to use such a thing, even with superhuman strength.

.22 is on the right and the left is a 5mm
That's .22 short vs .22 long (long rifle?), neither are 5mm Fallout cartridges because 5mm is not a real cartridge. :V

That left is legit a 5mm round, It does actually exist IRL. It's just an obscure round that came about back in the day and never really found a place. That said if you have guys in power armor they should be carrrying Auto cannons like what was on the A-10, They were claimed to of been able to "Chew up tanks" after all and a 5mm certainly isn't going to do that. Might as well give them fucking bb guns.

XD It's a .22 short, trust me, I know boolet.

5mm in Fallout is more like a necked down .223 round, which correlates to how the AR's damage compares to the hunting rifle.

Another IRL bullet that wouldn't make too much sense given the damage values ingame, although that one would be a lot more powerful than .22 short for sure.

We see from the assault carbine the magazine length looks about .223 size, not super short or anything, and rimfire in an automatic is a very bad idea.
