Helldivers! Managed Democracy Foreign Affairs Simulator!

Until they start tweaking the game so you need microtransactions to compete ingame...
Most usual consequence of microtransactions.
Oh yeah that’s the big problem isn’t it? Microtransactions should only ever be optional and cheap, an extra bit of pocket money on the side, but that sounds like far too much of a good business practice for the modern gaming industry.

Fucking parasites. They’re already drowning in cash as it is.

Nowadays its easy to forget that the most profitable games in the industry are gachas (glorified slot machines/gambling)

So, if you were a wealthy investor for a game company, why wouldn't you try turning console games and PC games into the most dystopian monetized nightmare? As far as you're concerned it'll make you more money.

I understand the logic of it most certainly, but I believe in the long run this is a fad that will end in tears. A good name and a loyal customer base will provide reliable revenue that could keep you in business a hundred years from now, and that’s worth having.

. . .

Well folks, it appears the impossible happened:

The Gamers won, Sony appears to have caved.

Oh my, a stupid corpo is not going to do something potentially fraudulent that pisses off their customer base, what a radical move, it is as if they exist to produce goods and services that people WANT to buy.

There's always a compromise, Sony will want to make the added money any way they can.

Expect monetization, nerfs, general fuckery.
They already have micro transactions, it is called buying super credits.

Victory is sweet, but we must remain vigilant.
Yeah, the fact they remember who they are supposed to be serving and where their money comes from now doesn't mean they won't revert to their old fuckery.
That aside, some gormless exec is probably having to come up with the best explanation of their lives for their terrible decision making. The public backlash, the sheer lunacy of it all and impending legal issues were as like too much for them to handle.
I doubt it, that exec probably shafted the responsibility to some hapless meketing idiot that was there to be kicked out if this was to happen.

In any case, this is the first, last and ONLY, SOYNY GAME I'M EVER BUYING.

And after this I do not trust AnusHead, either.

Yeah, this is a surprise but I think they did it because with the investors call in 2 weeks iirc. They didn't want to have to shoe that they lost potentially millions from requiring a PSN account

Probably the same call where they were going to brag about muh PSN subscription numbers.

Fuck that shit, if they and their investors think these subscription numbers matter they are all retarded.
What matters is Revenue, EBITDA, Gross profit, P/E and EPS.

Soyny has been around since just after WWII, they are an old, mature company, muh growth and muh subscriber count is irrelevant, they are not a frigging commiefornia startup, and even for those muh subscriber count is increasingly a bullshit metric.

Even frigging Google did what was unthinkable and is issuing a dividend, and Soyny is an even bigger dinosaur.

Actually, comparing the two, Soyny is a dinosaur, and Google is a primate.

The subscriber count means they have more data to sell.
Which means more money

Worthless data that is regulated ever more strictly, especially where third party access is concerned.
All they might be able to get is your E-mail and which games you play and for how long, maybe if you are a whale or not.
Google likely has all that and more.

That is plenty they can sell to advert

Not that useful, Google's data is because they can track you across websites and deliver you ads there on the basis of the website + your surfing and clicking history.
Not only that but google had "pixel tracking" where they can see stuff down to how long you've hovered your mouse on a particular block of text, ad or other assorted crap.
By owning your e-mail provider they get even more useful data and metadata.

Soyny does not have that and the only way advertiser x will know you pay x for games or play game y is if they have your E-mail and can track you to the particular site where the ads are being served.

Google also offers OIDC based logins, which makes it even better for em to track you and sew what you like and serve you ads.

Same with Facebook, who also have orders of magnitude more useful data on each of their users, sometimes stretching decades.

Compared to all that power Soyny is small fry, a joke.

Now, back on topic.

Here is RGE's take on this shit, it is JUST THE FIRST 15 OR SO MINUTES SO NO TL:DW, but I will summarize it for you, his take is thst Steam bitchdlapped Soyny and FailStation hard by decoding to give refunds and delisting it in countries where PSN is not available due to the term changes.

Welp, I was right, Kusony proves to be treacherous shit heads.

Who didn't expect more sony fuckery to be going on? If you live life to the following rules, you won't be surprised by corporate nonsense.

1: Corporations hate you, and intend on doing things you don't like
2: Once they have made a decision, it is final
3: The only exception to rule 2 is when a decision is overturned, an equally annoying decision will be put in it's place once the heat dies down

Bam, never be surprised again! Works EVERY time, or your money back!

This is likely the result of a dispute between Valve and Sony. The former wants assurance that the latter isn’t going to push the PSN nonsense again, and Sony is not providing that assurance right now. Therefore, those games are being kept delisted for the moment so as to avoid a whole load of legal issues, and protect Valve’s customers from being screwed over.

Who the fuck is in charge of Sony? This whole mess was entirely avoidable.

Yeah, this is more Valve then sony keeping those regions locked.
Most likely behind the scenes deals

Valve, unlike Soyny knows where it's money is coming from.

And that Soyny changing it's terms after releasing a bunch of games opens it up for possible lawsuits.

So, it bitchslapped Soyny, bit probably it has to bitchslap harder and longer to dissuade them from more shit.

IMHO what they should be aiming for is a total prohibition of 3rd party accounts being required to play Steam games.
