So what are you watching?

There's still some wonky-ness. Like, I don't understand why Aragorn gives Eowyn the time of day. Or where Gimli and Legolas' friendship had time to grow between Fellowship and Towers. Or why Faramir is so harshed on by his father?

I'm sure it's very coherent in the books with time scales that make much more sense than the movies. But yeah, my impression so far is that it's better than the theatrical version but still lacks far too much context.

They are decent and especially help if you never read the books. The expanded scenes do help with charaters development and fill out enough of the plot to make it worth watching.
It's also over 11 hours long. Watching the entire thing in one go is a bit of an ordeal.

Kenneth Branaugh's unabridged production of Hamlet clocks in at right around 4 hours and includes an intermission. That's kinda pushing it when it comes to evening entertainment.

The trick is not to watch it one go. I have watched it a couple times and have always broken it up over a week.

Yes, it is long and I understand why aot of it was cut from original version becasue no one expect super fans are going to want to watch. Especially snice the normal version does tell a complete story even with some parts sidelined.

The first time I saw it was shortly after it was released on DVD and I rented it because I wasn't going to spend a hundred bucks to buy it. I had to watch it in one go to avoid getting hit with a late fee.

So I have finshed Yellowstone and can not wait for the next season. It finshed as strong as it started and is a great modern western.

I binged the new season of Stranger Things one of the only things on Netflix worth watching.

Also snice most of the new shows have not caught my interest I have looked to older shows. I decided it is time to watch Breaking Bad. So far I am only a few epsoides in but I like it. We see the fall of the stright and narrow teacher fall into crime. The charaters feel real and interactio s have a decent sense of drama with some humor mixed in. So far it lives up to the hype I have heard about it.

Planning on watching 'Magnum PI' reruns (the television show with Tom Selleck)

I have seen a couple old episodes and liked them. Overall you can see why so many cops shows copied parts of it.

You may also want to try Columbo. A classic cop show that while less action packed then a lot of the more modern o es is still great with the "Who Done Its"

I just saw the amazing 2016 film AMERIGEDDON on the excellent streaming service Tubi.

What is Amerigeddon you ask?

That's right, a movie so manly only Chuck Norris' (eldest son Mike Norris) could direct it.

It stars Dina Meyer, India Eisley, a bunch of people from those Christian movies, and ALEX "FUCKING" JONES.

In the near future, the fifty year plan of a "demonic elite" (figuratively speaking) comes to fruition as they prepare to bring North America under Globalist Domination through the use of an EMP Attack on North America. The President, with approval of Congress, signs a National Defense Authorization Act that suspends the Constitution, declares Martial Art and allows the United Nations to come in to enforce law and order under the guise of combating Domestic Terrorism. This film follows a TEXAS extended family and friends who are threatened by this International United Nations Regime when they find out the truth behind this Operation.

Spoilers... but the climax involves United Nations Soldiers (complete with those adorable blue helmets) attempting to storm a Texas Ranch defended by a marginally diverse group of Texan Men and Women. Gunning down foreign UN Soldiers (from Russia and China and nondescript Latin American countries) is like fighting Alien Invaders. There's no emotional or moral hangups.

Powerful Acting. Amazing Special Effects. Heart Rending Emotional Narrative. Compelling Character Arcs and Development.

This movie has none of this.

11/10. Highly Recommend. Would Watch Again.

AMERIGEDDON

One of the finest movie quotes?

"My name is Colonel Kashoid. Commander of United Nations Special Brigade."

*American takes headphones out of her ears* "I'm sorry what did you say is your name was?"

"Kashoid..."

"Gesundheit."

Fuck off Commie Globalist!

This is Cinema at its finest.

Started Watching Castlevania and Jupiters Legacy On Netflix.

I saw the first four episodes of Castlevania. The first three episodes were well animated, the world building was okay... but the story and kinda the characters and all were pretty balls. Not a big fan of Dracula's nondescript overwhelming powers. The Church is Lawful Stupid. The setup was pretty rapidly done and there's none of the taste of history of what was actually going on in 15th Century Wallachia at the time, being replaced apparently with some vapid anti-Clerical screed.

Episode Four of Castlevania had some interesting bits in it however and I found it rather enjoyable. I liked the Battle with the Demons and the Demon talking to the Bishop and such. And what I'm guessing is the Hero Group forming up to battle Dracula.

I'm amazed this series made it to four seasons on Netflix to be honest though because overall it's not very good beyond the animation. I'll give the second season a shot since I'm told the first season is basically a prologue.

Jupiters Legacy thought is actually legitimate impressive to me. It has some epic fights for television and I'm actually really interested in all of the characters. There's a solid story and narrative to it all but it really feels character driven. Everything in this series I've probably read or seen before but the way Jupiters Legacy is dealing with it is really interesting to me. The story takes place in two parts, in 1929 which explores the origins of 'The Union of Justice' and the present day where the Union still exists as a Superhero organization.

I love the ideas it explores, where this Union was founded on a Code of No Killing and No Interfering in Political Matters and I like how it seems to deal with those challenges, and more, in a rather reasonable and grounded and believable manner and how it drives and motivates and shades the characters and how they see the world and the like.

Of course... I never heard about this series until after Netflix cancelled it with one eight episode season. And of course I didn't bother giving it a chance because it was based on Mark Millar stuff but the TV series seems a fair bit more interesting to me then the comics was. And I really dig the struggles with honor and integrity these Heroes are having to confront. I like how its exploring these moral questions and the character driven storylines that would be strong even without such interesting characters and interactions. And I dig the world building as well. It's well done. Sad it was cancelled. Would recommend. I stopped myself from watching the last episode even, wanting to kinda savor it for another day or two before finishing it off.

I thought the Castlevania cartoon was pretty mediocre. The protagonist was downright unlikeable. A character doesn't need to have a "flaw" like alcoholism. Most alcoholics can't function as seen in fiction. That doesn't endear the audience to the character. A flaw could be something as simple as being forgetful. Also disliked the dialogue. The show felt trying way too hard to be "for adults", like the Invincibles show.

The opening animation is pretty cool, though.

I may give it a look. I only heard about after it was compared to the Boys. But snice it was only one season I have never bothered watching it.

Chaperoned a batch of kiddies out to see 'Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank'.

If anyone has ever wanted to watch Blazing Saddles with one of their young uns who is a bit too young for it yet...This is going to get you there, with the whole plot, jokes, and even theme music lifted (though the last is given some rejiggered flare) straight from Blazing Saddles, and a few additions or modifications for the kid-friendlyized plot to, honestly, make it amusing to watch in its own right (esp. since it's only 85 minutes...as the script references a few times :p ).

Previews did not emphasize that aspect of it at all, so that's kind of surprising. Ricky Gervais plays a very amusing villain (even if much of his script is pulled straight from Blazing Saddles), Mel Brooks does some voicework that's basically a 'best hits' collection of his, and the whole film is basically just a big, dumb (in good way), tribute/pastiche to his work with talking animals as the medium.

A few good visual gags, basically a lot of the charm of Blazing Saddles, and...I dunnow, just a charming, innocent family/kids movie that's worth watching.
Also just fascinating because of westerns stealing from samurai movies and Blazing Saddles being the headline parody of those westerns...and now itself getting turned into a (admittedly, kid-friendly) samurai movie.

I'm halfway surprised the movie didn't get in trouble for 'cultural insensetivity' or some such nonsense, because the show does play with samurai/Japanese jokes a little bit (nothing actually offensive, but enough that I could imagine people acting like it was).

My daughters got Blazing Saddles when they were little. Princess thinks it's hilarious and wanted to pass the "racisim is dumb" message to our daughters.

(for those confused: Princess is my wife. I've never met @prinCZess face-to-face.)
