Once. Grover Cleveland did it.How many times in history has a president served two non-consecutive terms?
Generally there aren't so many election related shenanigans causing so many people to doubt the validity of the election.Trump's situation is somewhat unusual there. Generally when somebody runs for President and loses, the party quits supporting them as a loser, and the failed candidate usually got weak votes (because otherwise they wouldn't have lost) which means they get primary'd anyway.
Trump got a very high voter turnout and still has much support compared to, say, Bob Dole.
It may be worth mentioning, though, that Cleveland won the plurality of the popular vote in the election where he lost the electoral vote. So he won two nonconsecutive terms but won the popular vote three times in a row. I believe that would make him the only one other than FDR who won the popular vote more than twice; FDR, of course, won four times and won the electoral vote each time.Once. Grover Cleveland did it.
In that respect Trump's position is actually more similar to that of candidates before the democratization of the nomination process. It used to be fairly common for former candidates to get another shot: Nixon lost to JFK in 1960 and got another shot in '68; Stevenson had a rematch against Eisenhower; Dewey ran against FDR and Truman; William Jennings Bryan lost to Taft after losing to McKinley twice; and, of course, Cleveland got his rematch against Harrison.Trump's situation is somewhat unusual there. I am surprised by the lack of comments.

Well Trump pretty much confirmed he's still leading the republican party. He is not starting a new party.
Is running fundraising to oust the traitor RINOs and beat democrats to take back house and senate.
All but confirmed he will be running again.
Set the narrative and policy platform for the GOP going forward. They have not shut him up on election fraud, and he made a major point on securing elections, continuing better trade deals and securing the borders.
Called the supreme court cowards.
Cancel culture needs to end, he spends some time calling that out, too.
Called to get kids back in school immediately.
Called out trans women competing in women's sports.
I used to always hate trump speeches, because he's not great at them. But after listening to Biden the last month, Trump is refreshingly coherent.
He's building a movement. It's going to be bigger than ever before, And it think for the first time in months I have a little shred of hope for our future again.
It was a good speech, by recent standards.
Shit, I was a reluctant trump "supporter," before. I kinda like him now, after a month of the Biden/Harris catastrophe.
Deep State can't make Trump give up no matter what they do to him.I always wondered whether or not losing 2020 would lead to Trump rising again stronger than ever. With him going full beast mode in his speech, I need wonder no more.
The absolute scenes when the American left realise he's not going away.
Did anyone really think he would? The absolute scenes when the American left realise he's not going away.
It was great. I liked that he outlined specific voting policies, named the Republicans who need to go, pushed for economic nationalism and the death of big tech and affirmed that America is a Christian nation.Just finished watching that speech and damn that pumped me up ngl.
Hopefully they both get primaried in the next elections.
Booting the neocons and RINOs from the GOP leadership would do a lot to help the party be representational of it's base, and not the DC swamp.
Considering the track record of candidates who have tried to be Trump and failed (much like candidates who tried to be Obama and failed), I think you are going to be sorely disappointed. Either because it turns out that a lot of critical swing districts won’t want to put a Trump style candidate who’s guaranteed to lose in the general and lose bigly, or because the base will support them but they’ll get creamed in the general because the swing voters, who you need in order to win, would rather not have a nut in office. As an example, AOC and Bernie, who the Democratic base love, supported a number of leftist candidates in order to purge insufficiently left wing office holders...and they all got crushed because it turns out most people do prefer a more middle of the road and conciliatory approach in politics. AOC herself only won because she’s in one of the bluest districts in the country, just as a hard right candidate would only do well in a red district -and maybe not even then. Does Roy Moore ring a bell? Christine O’Donnell? Sharron Angle?
Trump might win the primaries but it’s not a sure thing. And if he does I fully expect him to get crushed in the general because people despise him. He didn’t actually carry down-ballot candidates, they carried him. Of course, his ego won’t allow him to accept that he’s a three-time loser (costing elections in 2018, 2020, and 2021). So while I don’t doubt he’s going to try this, it’s going to be a cold day in hell before he winds up winning again.
To paraphrase the man, it’s better to be a graceful winner than a graceless loser. Sadly, it seems, too many people think that the loudest parts of the base are the actual majority. Sorry, gang, you still need us. And because we aren’t dumb enough to split the party either, you’re stuck with us.

It's actually the other way around. The GOP carried trump...
Hilarious.
