China Wuhan Virus Pandemic

WELP! A train in Idar Oberstein, Rhineland-Palatinate has been stopped under suspicion of the corona virus being present.
That town is 34 miles by car from my hometown. 70 suspected infectees, with more probably being present.
I think I should advise my parents to grab some canned food and dried fruits because the panic empties the stores...

It astounds me how these people can be so clever at getting into power, then so brain dead at wielding power. It honestly seems like Medieval Kings on average had more of a mind for half way competent governance than our current glorious leaders.
Well, Medieval Kings had to leave a lasting realm because heirs and all. They also risked getting offed if they ruled truly abysmal, with the designated heir or a disgruntled noble being the ones who removed him. Monarchies couldn't have lasted as long as they did, if its rulers were incompetent.

Monarchs were just as bad. What you are seeing is survivor bias. Many of the times a bad king arose, he was deposed/conquered, so you aren't considering how long his rule lasted.

The other issue is that getting power is a separate skill from keeping power, which is what medieval kings did. And wielding power responsibly is very different than keeping power.

What the hell?, God forbid this virus somehow infects Greenland or Madagascar.
I can believe it now thanks to lackluster protection the pussies.

WHO doing a stream on virus damage control the pencil pushing bureaucrat way.

Not quite. Most Monarchs throughout history have been "average," if not "good." That coupled with the good vastly outnumbers the bad. From William the Conqueror onward, you can only name the really bad Monarchs on one hand; their damage was usually undone in a single reign. Besides, when most Kings were shit at governing, they just swanned off hunting and whoring whilst they left the Realm in the hands of a Lord Chancellor who usually possessed a brain between his ears.

Was it not King Casimir the Great who slammed Poland's doors shut and thus spared it the worst of the Black Death?

This is survivorship bias. You don't remember the small kingdoms that collapsed because of bad kings, because they don't exist now, and weren't important.

I just feel that this thread is becoming hysterical. We're talking about a disease with a death rate of 2 - 3% here (and probably lower), and I'm essentially reading a panic.
You should be concerned the traffic in US Ports is grinding down due to this virus. The Truckyard I work at is damn near empty. We are never damn near empty in normal conditions. Also........

Edit Just saw you self banned from this thread.

Do you have any plans in case the matter explodes in your region?
I have 3 months worth of food and I am stocking up on Toilet paper. Paper towels and other toiletries. Next I will buy Ant Poison and distilled water for my CPAP. I have a private well so I don't have to depend on the Town water supply.

Edit and I am also stocking up on Pistol and Shotgun Ammo......... Just in case.
