You are assuming they can afford more than maybe a dozen of the things.Russia with stealth bombers.

The Russians also have some TU-160s, 17 all told in fact with at least another 10 ordered(they want 30 at the minimum and ideally 40)and they've been modernizing their existing fleet quite a bit. It would be 18 in service but they lost one to an accident back in 2003That still makes the Russian air force immeasurably more potent than what it is now. A dozen of these things is quite a dramatic improvement over the TU-95, isn't it?
There aren't that many pictures of this but before the war the heavy fighter was a bit of a craze. We had examples like the Bf-110, the Bell Airacuda. Later it seemed to catch on again with the Mosquito and the Black Widow among other designs.
However, this aircraft seemed all but forgotten and it's a shame none survived. The Fokker G-1
You mean third best.
Just a picture showing a very barebones evolution of the best air force out there, Her Majesty's.
The venerable F-111 Aardvark. Sure it was one of McNammera's brainchild projects, so to speak, but surprisingly enough it is a good call.
Sadly, this aircraft would be replaced by later F-15 variants after the Cold War, leaving a huge hole in the US's air roster.
That is... less than accurate. The F-111 was designed as a multi-role aircraft first with an emphasis on tactical bomber capabilities. McNamara wanted to reduce duplication, increase part commonality, and keep development costs and time down and he wasn't wrong in that regard.McNamara's bad call was trying to force the F-111 on the Navy, and to a degree pretending it was a fighter in the first place as opposed to a tactical strike bomber.
Not really, the US air roster was left without a tactical bomb/missile truck outside of the A-10 (and even then, the A-10 wasn't as adequate and is useless when anything more than some idiots with some AAGs shows up, the moment that people with even Iraqi-level competence in IADS comes to play, you're going to start losing airframes to battle damage rather quickly). Also, the F-15E is a poor fighter-bomber, given that it was designed as a fighter first and foremost and its anti-ground capabilities are -at best- a distant second to its anti-air capabilities. There's nothing sad about that other than nostalgia, the F-15E actually *is* the versatile and deadly multirole fighter-bomber that the F-111 was imagined to be.
