As aircraft development gets ever more expensive, more and more players will drop out of the game. We've seen it on this side of the Atlantic with the merging of Northrop and Grumman and McDonnel and Douglas and Boeing and a bunch of other aircraft companies that I'm forgetting. Now it seems like the Russians are doing it too.
Sad to see this happen. It's like in the automobile industry, where dozens of car manufacturers consolidated into the Big Three, and then the Big Three slowly became bland and interchangeable megacorps. We're told that it's the inevitable result of market forces, but sometimes I wonder if those market forces can't push in the opposite direction.
