Thomas Sutherland
Age 43
Male
Born to a military family in British India Thomas spent much of his youth travelling Northern India. He grew accustomed to the outdoors and learned how to look after himself on the frontier. During this time he met many of the local cultures gaining an interest in anthropology.
He was sent to England for a formal education which he found largely boring until he found himself in a lecture on ancient civilisations. While the mysteries of the old world were intriguing on their own it was the hint of immense treasure that really caught his attention.
He attended university and became a member of the Royal Society, a group dedicated to broadening the knowledge of mankind. As part of this group he joined in on an expedition to South America in search of Eldorado which proved fruitless.
During this time he also developed an interest in the finer things money could buy. His interests broadened from exploration to the other experiences a man could enjoy in the world earning him a less than noble reputation.
Armed with a classical education and some field experience Thomas returned to India and set about delving into its grand temples, usually without the permission of local authorities. After narrowly avoiding a beheading for desecrating a princely tomb he turned to Egypt and the growing fascination with lost tombs among the sands.
Over several expeditions Thomas acquired great wealth and promptly spent it all on luxuries and frivolities. Never more than a few days from bankruptcy he became less picky about the type of work he undertook serving as guide to graverobbers and pillagers from Indochina to Mexico finding a niche in criminal circles.
He was expelled from the Royal Society and blacklisted from official expeditions leaving him willing to join any mission that paid a decent retainer.
