Battletech Blaine Pardoe, Battletech Author Cancelled For Conservative Political Belief

Mr. Pardoe's second post on the topic sadly makes it clear that the rot goes deep in CGL.
True, but the franchise owners are important here, though I agree that taking CGL to task would be a good first step.

Don't think the situation is big enough for this, honestly. It just seems, strategically, like a really stopid move on their part.

So how will CGL handle things if their bottom line is badly hit?
if they go under the baseball card company that owns them sees a small drop in profits. the company that owns the card company sees an even smaller drop. however if they started this over 1 mentally ill person then if a few hundred people make a point of expressing themselves then they will likely realize they fucked up. actually doing anything is another question entirely.

Overall I'm impressed at how optimistic he actually is over this literal Betrayal of Ideals... *coughs*

Blaine Pardoe said:
To be clear, I am not a victim. I refuse to use that title. I am a conservative that has had one publisher not publish my work because my views do not align with theirs. I chose to exercise my First Amendment rights. To me, this is censorship at the source. Their actions have had me join the ranks of others like Gina Carano, Tim Allen, and others, so I feel like I’m in good company. They have a business to run and made a decision. What I, and the fans, think of that decision is irrelevant. The loss is to the many fans I have earned over the decades. I will walk away proud of my contributions to BattleTech.

I have been overwhelmed with dozens of emails, posts, and DM’s of support. Thank you. This has been an emotional burden that I’ve been carrying for months and this weekend was cathartic and emotionally therapeutic. I ignored the nasty comments and outright lies by a handful of people, they didn’t merit giving the posters credibility by responding. Haters are going to hate. I don’t have time in my life for such negative people.

I get it – we kind of grew up together. A lot of fans have written about how they were teenagers and loved reading my books. My books were a guilty and safe pleasure for many of you in your youth. I’m glad my efforts got you to enjoy the game and the universe. Others loved my contribution to sourcebooks – ComStar and Clan Wolf. One compared my current situation to that of Khan Sarah McEvedy of Clan Wolverine…which made me grin. One asked if I would be selling my BattleTech collection – which I now must consider. Most simply were upset and wanted to know they had my back. Everyone expressed appreciation for my work and I am deeply thankful for your kind words.

I will continue to write novels about great characters, telling fun and creative stories – just not BattleTech stories. This will not slow me down one bit as a writer. I prefer creating in my own universe of Blue Dawn or writing true crime books, or my novels for Creative Juggernaut. I have three novels coming out of Kickstarters for them starting this fall. Two publishers reached out to me yesterday to write for their series – so you never know where I might show up. These publishers are able to separate where I stand on issues versus the stories I write. I have contracts in place right now for books with publishers who don’t care what politics I have. Their focus is the product I create. As long as I write good stories, they and their readers are happy.

Looks like he's in a good place.

I probably shouldn't feel so done with the creators I follow who insist on a neutral stance on this but it is kinda sad to see. The loud insistence that both sides are bad and cancel. I can empathize with the desire to avoid IRL politics in the fun stompy robot game but you would think that the people who brought it into the game first would be told off for it. unfortunately I think much like 40k most will not realize the problem until later when they find that the people they invited in have knifed them in the back.

Yeah, this is only going to moderately hurt him and may even pay off.

We're the ones who are gonna lose because BT's bending the knee now and there's not really a whole lot of the tabletop/RPG world left that hasn't.

we always have the old editions and 3d printing is really good at high level detail now. at this point it is more about finding a good model and your ability to support it and paint it.

Welp...now I have to decide if I support CGL at all, and I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be, "Go burn you feckless c***!"

I'm going to take a step back before I write my response to CGL on their forums.

I'd be interested in knowing what they said in the walled threads. I've never been able to sign up for their forums, for some reason the confirmation emails never arrive.
I am a member, but I haven't touched the forums in at least a couple years b/c I have limited time. Gaming has gotten to be a much smaller part of my life. Silly kids... :p

We have free art and drawing software, cheap publishing tools, word processors and 3d printing. Everything needed for groups of people to create thier own 'verses, games and even minis.

What bothers me the most is the naked gloating on the parts of people who should know better. I have seen some on their side literally cheer about Blaine being shown the door in a way that should shame anyone. I've been fired from jobs in classier ways than this. I think this is causing as much division as why Blaine was fired.

also people have access to every RPG and table top system to base any mechanics on. if people want to make a good homebrew they can steal anything and pirate whatever.

Yup, plenty of free rulesets, like FUDGE or 1 page rules. Got some buddies who think modern 40k lore and rules suck? build your own grimdark verse, use 1 page rules grab some mini designs online and print em out.

Those are options but they get increasingly hard over time as new blood quits entering the hobby. Try and run a DnD 2nd edition game today, or RIFTS, or any older system that hasn't been in print for a while and be prepared to find some players maybe never.

I thought RIFTS was still in print. Hell I dropped it long ago because you need 40+ rule books to play the munchkiny game.
