I have to say, this part doesn't make sense. If the environment is totally ruined, to the point of making Earth near-uninhabitable, why would anyone oppose ecological organizations, as you say? The environmentalists wouldn't need to use terrorism.
By "eco-terrorism", do you mean terrorism that attacks the environment to disrupt food supplies, or terrorism carried out by environmentalists?
Another question -- how exactly do new islands appear? I can see you're not going for realism here, but that question needs to be answered.
