Ran across this, seemed worth putting here for anyone who wants a recap on the Menendez situation (or general Congressional corruption)

Don't bet on it. He's ancient but he'll be younger at the end of his next term than Chuck Grassley is now. And I'm not aware of specific reasons other than sheer age to think Sanders will kick the bucket between now and then. As for whether the next term will be his last ... yeah, I think I'd...

That would be "the actual people" (with allowances for polls being wrong) who I mentioned "didn't" support her.

"Current governor's wife runs for US Senate" is never a great look. The NJ political machine had her back but it was looking like the actual people didn't, so she dipped out. Stunning and brave, as I believe the kids today say. The real question in my mind is whether she realized she was going...

Is he hoping a Republican will be on the jury who'll vote not guilty just for the spoiler candidate? Or maybe this is just his way of clinging to the pretense of innocence while giving up the primary.

The reason you were asked about mixed race people is your use of the word "MONGREL" to refer to that man from Kentucky. What makes him a mongrel, and is being a mongrel a bad thing? (CaptainX and I infer that you believe so, based on the way you used the term in that post.)

At least one of those who voted to acquit feels betrayed by Paxton's latest legal strategy of offering to plead no contest to the whistleblowing charge on the condition that he not be deposed.

When you say exonerated, are you referring to the impeachment acquittal or something else?

If Paxton were to win the nomination I'd call it a gift to Democrats. I've only paid superficial attention but from what I've heard it seems more likely than not that at least some of the allegations are well founded. They could hardly ask for an opponent against whom they have so much...

China may be underperforming compared to where it should be as an economy and military due to corruption and rulers that favor political reliability over growth, strength, and the well-being of the populace; but that doesn't necessarily mean a country with over a billion people isn't a...

Not for federal positions. They can resign or be kicked out by their own legislative bodies (or both bodies together for the executive branch) but the people that voted them in don't get to call backsies until the next election. And you know, it can suck but it's fair. Relatedly, I always...

Much better argument... "disallow" if true? I mean I don't really care that much if the proposal is dead in the water, but I hadn't heard that it actually removed enforcement options that are currently on the table.

This, however ... whatever the reason is for the way things are on the border, that's the reality on the ground. Biden isn't doing zero, nor did Trump before him, nor Obama, nor Bush, and I don't see reason to think that Trump is going to do zero if he wins based on the laws on the books today.

That's fair, to a certain extent. Particularly if you think it would not only reduce the direct motivation but also impact the election.

Personally, I think the border deal was the best deal possible before 2025. No matter if (or how many times) you overthrow the Republican leadership in House and Senate, it's all rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic if you can't get Biden to sign it (and Schumer to put it on the floor). Now...

Agreed on MI. I view VA and CO as longshots for the GOP not unlike TX and FL for Dems, and I'm not sure if Youngkin would actually be an asset. GA will be closer. Kemp would be a strong candidate in the general election; I would defer to Georgians on whether he'd prevail in a primary. On the...

Yes, I agree that all three are very likely to hold. But do you think there are any GOP seats more likely than those to flip?

Well, technically it would be more accurate to say that it's now extremely challenging for the Democrats to avoid that fate, since they would need to retain every seat you named plus the vice presidency, or flip one of TX/FL/IN/worse for every seat they lose in addition to doomed WV.

I'm sure he is, but Trump could reverse that policy with or without what Tuberville is doing. To be completely honest that sounds like you're for politicizing the military.
