Thanks! As AFAIK both English and Scottish Catholics do exist, could any had reached such rank sooner? Or were these too few and peer pressure to convert too strong?

I just learned that Catholics could enlist/be commissioned into the British army from 1778 already. I thought that had been enabled later. Anybody know when the first Catholic reached the rank of general?

Beyond my ken. My mother told me that a friend had spent the war under German occupation and could not attend uni. Less about indoctrination but more about having contanimated people with degrees and thus in charge of things. No matter how small.

2in1? Both sunbonnet and breaking the regular outline of the helmet, with less fuss and local flavour? When helmet not needed, you pull the dashy baggy cap off it in and plop on your head, with no need for any sort of outdress cap etc.? Separation of cloth and helmet may indeed be beneficial...

Wasn't the "testing" leading to the 11,43mm M1911 being adopted skewed as fuck? IMO the FN1900 (also Browning's, BTW) in 7,65x17mm (0,32ACP in USA) would had been perfectly adequate for Show Of Authority uses (the only RL use of pistols), with shotguns adopted to deal with juiced up Freedom...

I just discovered - if re-enactors are anything to go by - that Swedish 30YW infantry used berdiches as forquets. Something which I've associated with Muscovy and PLC only. And they had the small berdiches whose invention I've seen attributed to King Sobieski. Or maybe it was their adoption only?

I visited the local military museum on 3.V and was astonished at how large the FT17 was. My impression might had been coloured by looking at a tankette barely a minute previously :)
