The Republican Party would implode as the Patriot Party steals their thunder. It would be like Labour and the Liberals in early 20th century Britain, one side is more coherent, new, and offers so very much more. Or, more likely, the Patriot Party does well in the polls and that scares the shit...

Conservatives (at least politically), by their nature, are pathologically afraid of rocking the boat too much. This makes them practically helpless in the face of slow burn leftism. It's a problem throughout the Western World.
