Not going off of any canon but the first movie, my thinking would be once they ate enough they would grow larger and start spitting out eggs.

For me its more that any random egg being able to grow up and lay a thousand more eggs is terrifying rather than the design. Just as having engineers etc takes away from it being an organism that evolved naturally perhaps billions of years ago

I really don't think so, it's pretty obvious (stated) that David made the Praetormorph, no need to clarify that. Look I hate it too, but this is what Ridley wanted. Frankly I think every single addition, starting with "queens" has taken away from what made Alien terrifying in the first place.

Not just that, but this director also ruined Evil Dead by missing the point and making it a gore fest akin to Saw so I have little faith he won't do the same here and I've no interest in watching movies like that. Sucks cause I'm a huge Alien fan.
