    Out of sheer curiosity, how do you intend to hold the planet against counter-attacks once you've taken it? Otherwise great story, my only complaint is that it hooks too much and waiting for chapters has me on withdrawal... :D

    In practical terms the knowledge is immediately useful only for those with proper industrial infrastructure that can turn it into finished goods - so that means key arms manufacturers, who are / should be secure and trustworthy almost by definition... ;)

    Hmmm, is infantry that much of a threat that you want a 65 ton heavy mech fitted with anti-PBI flamers, instead of mounting something that can better knock other mechs while outsourcing anti-squishie job to light / scout mechs in +/- 30-40 ton range?

    Well, yes, to keep enemy forces from trashing the place, the key is to prevent their landing, not to defeat them on the ground - if they have managed to land damage becomes unavoidable, even if they just hover with the dropships and use their fusion torches to, well, torch the place. Never mind...

    Even conventional artillery that can be pre-sighted on most likely landing zones can put the dropships into a world of hurt as they try to set down and disembark. You just need a good command system to call in bombardment on designated coordinates.
