Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

Here's an interesting look from Russian point of view at the conflict: It also seems Armenian PM has decided to go to Moscow hat in hand: https://tass.com/world/1218647

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

Not as much future conflicts, they certainly did not plan for the Union to collapse, but to draw borders in a way that would force all affected groups to look up to Soviet government to protect them. Armenians in Azeri territory, Azeri in Armenian territory, both groups would have to look to...

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

A possible scenario - Armenia gets whipped, looses some ground in "separatist" areas; Russia steps in and stops the fighting. Popular backlash rightly blames and removes from power pro-Western forces (with a wee bit help behind the scenes if needed) replacing them with pro-Russian ones. Lost...

No idea, but with his kind of money it would not be hard to arrange for deniable intermediaries.

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

Supposedly, current Armenian PM came to power as result of a"color revolution" (*cough*Soros-financed*cough), and has been pulling away from Russia ever since.

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

Hard to say, and people in the know won't be talking I guess - these drones are so light and small they simply can't be having all that much in the way of electromagnetic screening / insulation, so it's a question of just how much electromagnetic radiation is needed to induce destructive levels...

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

I wonder if a radar on a SPAAG could be used to fry a loitering munition?

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

Kazakhstan is also thick with Turkey, they have joint military procurement, IIRC thermal rifle sights were a joint project of theirs for example. And speaking of Turkey, it seems helicopter rides are back in fashion, this time with Kurdish farmers...

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

So he basically confirmed the area isn't covered by the treaty. I guess Armenian leaders should have thought about possible consequences of distancing themselves from Russia when all their neighbours hate their guts and Russia is their only friend. But no, that would have actually made sense...

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

Because US military presence in Turkey is "aimed" at Russia, Iran, and Middle East in general. US would loose a lot if Turks were to react by expelling US military presence.

Not quite. Kontakt is tank-grade heavy ERA, so fitting it on lighter vehicles can only end in tears (or laughter, depending on perspective). For BMP-3 vehicle, Kaktus in the name of the ERA system that is meant to protect against older RPG-class weapons (not modern tandem warheads though, you...

    1. Yes ;) 2. Trophy is Israeli, Russians have their Arena system.

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

Active yes, but those don't get exported for the moment, and are mostly for the new generation of vehicles - Armata family. ERA / NERA works on contact, so launching distance makes no difference. Guess Azeri had either cheap(er) models without the goodies or the explosive inserts "grew feet" and...

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

IIRC newer BMP variants have both ERA capable of defeating basic RPGs and thermal sights (either commander or gunner / maybe both, I'd need to check...) for situational awareness. Newest Russian gear comes with active defences that would have seen the grenade intercepted well short of the vehicle.

It takes serious balls to sneak up that close, even so I'm surprised the RPG grenade even armed at such short distance...

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

The easiest way for that would be for them to get Turkey to switch it's alignment and ally with Russia / Shanghai Organisation. Otherwise you'd need an all-out war with total defeat of Turkey.

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

Russia stands to loose quite a bit if they act too strongly. Stomp on Azeris and their relationship with Turkey and Azerbaijan takes a dive. Do too little / nothing and the collective defence treaty that have that includes Armenia is proven worthless. So one must wonder who benefits from the...

Turkish-backed attack on Armenia by Azerbaijan with formal declaration of War

Turkey has been doing that kind of shit, namely violation of airspace - though without shooty part, for quite a while with Greece. They always get away with it...

Azeri use Israeli and Turkish gear too, drones especially. About article 5, exact verbiage: “The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack...
