Regarding the Japanese 25mm Type 96, their version of the Hotchkiss, there is a video on it

One of the uglier vessels around. The Italian Monitor Faa di Bruno. Lets take a barge, stick a couple of battleship guns on board, a tripod mast and an umbrella over the top of the turret. While it's probably not meant to leave the Adriatic or the Mediterranean I don't know if I would feel...

The Russian Battleship Gangut, refitted as the Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya must take the biscuit as one of the most.....distinctive looking vessels around. The refits changed many vessels, like the Queen Elizabeths lost a funnel, many of the US Battleships lost lattice masts and the Japanese ships...

I'm not sure whether I've posted this yet, but here goes. This is a goddamn ugly vessel but there's just something I like about it. HMS Terror, an Erebus class monitor if I remember the class right. Nothing subtle about it. The Udaloy class destroyer. Those forward box launchers look as...

Well I finally finished my Sovremmeny. There might not look much difference, but this is the lead ship of the class. I made sure the hull number and the cyrillic name at the stern matched. The etched metal cage mast at the back was a pain, 16-18 pieces, all involving super glue, and bending...

Another Soviet type I like the look of, the diminutive Krivak Class Frigate. I'd like to get a model of this, it shouldn't be as much of a bother as the Sovremmeny. It's quite 'clean' looking for a vessel of this era This particular vessel class was also the scene of a mutiny during the...

COVID has forced me to go back to a part built Trumpeter Sovremmeny I have. I'm not happy with the way it's turning out, too much fiddly photo etch, but it's my first warship. Needs some touch up paintwork and the rear mast isn't finished yet. It's the lead ship in the class.

Trouble is that the Zeros and indeed Oscars were lightly armoured, so while they might have had the speed they didn't really have the mass. Later models of torpedo bombers like the Judy and Grace were too valuable to just throw away. Was there ever any real successes with the Okha?

I must admit that the one Soviet vessel class I felt looked unbalanced was the Moskva and Lenin helicopter carriers.

Progress on my Sovremmeny, I am bloody dreading those photo etched masts and the multi part Helix helicopters. I do like the look of Soviet vessels of that era like the Kashin, Krivak, Udaloy etc, even the smaller missile boats like the Osa and so on

Does anyone know what the exact colour of the Soviet/Russian deck colours are on things like the Udaloy and Sovremmeny. Some have grey decks, but a fair few have a short of reddish colour. The instructions for my Trumpeter 1/350 Sovremmeny says Orange but I feel thats too bright.

Three of the Vietnam war, while not bluewater should certainly be appreciated. Patrol Boat River, or 'Pibber' In contrast, the far slower but more heavily armed Monitors. And a pair of Swift Boats.

Noticing the Japanese mentioned earlier, in particular their light AA, this long clip from the film Pacific Battleship Yamato is particularly good. Unfortunately someone put some music on top of it Also, two vessels that are notable, not for their long record or heavy damage inflicted, but...
