The problem is that China didn't have all that much industrial power back then, and a lot of what it did have in Manchuria was taken over by Japan in 1931. So, such hatred wouldn't make all that much sense because it wouldn't actually have the necessary military power to realize this vision.

I don't think that their hate for each other is as severe as it was in the past due to the Vietnamese liberating Cambodia from the extremely murderous Khmer Rouge, though.

That's actually a pretty good analogy, I think. Northerners might resent Southerners as backward racist bigots while Southerners might resent Northerners as Negro-lovers or something like that.
