That kind of escalation is a dangerous game of chicken for China's maritime neighbours. If the Chinese don't flinch, what next?

Those were military aircraft during wartime. The budget was "somebody else's problem" and "yes". EDIT: Civilian aircraft designs almost never use liquid-cooled engines. To airline execs and private pilots shaving a few minutes off a flight isn't worth the increased cost.

I didn't say all. Once the bugs with radials were worked out liquid-cooled inlines mostly got relegated to applications where speed was paramount ... like the Spitfire and Bf-109 (i.e.: fighters).

Some? The overwhelming majority of aero engine designs are air cooled. It's always been that way. Pros: weight, simplicity, reliability Con: increased drag

I might actually read the whole damn 710 page thing. A quick flip through says that it has instructions for telling a woman how to tie her hair into a bun.

They didn't say but it wasn't that. I'd have lost multiple limbs if it was instead of just a toe.

My bone infection was so bad that I was given every antibiotic the hospital had and lost a toe. Surprisingly, I thought it was just a blister that wouldn't heal because it didn't hurt. An entire month of IV antibiotics ain't fun.

Actually, I do. Don't change your socks for several days while walking around with an exposed broken bone when it's cold and wet - welp, congratulations - trench foot and a PICC line is your special door prize. Been there and done that.

I'm pretty sure you've never enjoyed either trenchfoot or the aftermath. 😋

Have you ever actually met a Vietnamese Communist? I have. He thinks the US is much better because we actually do honor our agreements. He hates the Chinese in ways I can not politely desribe. He would be very happy if I or someone else eviscerated every Chinese person he knows.

I wonder what Vietnam will do about this because they really do not like China (understatement of the century) and actually overthrew a Chinese-backed government to restore a monarchy after they told the US to be elsewhere. The Vietnamese like the Chinese about as well as I'd like a racist...

Almost certianly. If you want to know what airfoil the F-22 uses: it's an NACA 6-series. You can quickly look that up by using Google and asking a question.

If you were making bronze anywhere in North or South America before the Europeans said hello in 15th century that wasn't a copper-arsenic alloy your tin probably came from a mine in what is now either SE Bolivia or NW Mexico.

The Japanese have been showing the Chinese the digitus impudicus since time immemorial with "anything you can do we can do better". Everyone who has any ancestor that's not entirely sub-Saharan is part Neanderthal. Our ancestors went everywhere and weren't picky when they wanted to fuck. The...

They'll try to claim they got to Poland before the Mongols did because there's documented evidence that Europeans visited China in the 13th century and there's no way Marco Polo could have gotten to China using the "sightseeing" route he took without a Chinese guide. At least, they'll say that...

I was making an educated guess about what your rank based on your stated age. No offense was intended and I hope none was taken.

Given the stated age in your profile you're probably either an E-4 or O-1. I'm in my 40's and it would require an act of Congress to let me serve because I'm too old to be drafted and too old to volunteer.

Exactly what I was getting at. You might have no clue about what I'm saying and I might have no clue about what you're saying even when we're talking about the same thing while using the same language. I'm pretty sure your eyes would go tilt and your brain would break if I tried to explain why...
