The Town class was too big and expensive to play the same main roles of the Leander and Arethusa classes(trade protection and foreign station service). La Argentina wasn't(it was getting a bit big for the role, though, which is why I feel that the equivalent of La Argentina must not be too big).

The Towns were too big to be an equivalent of the La Argentina. I was thinking something about 1,000 tons smaller.

Something like her, yes, although I think a British equivalent would end up being slightly bigger and heavier.

Yeah, the whole story was a clusterfuck.

IIRC, Vasa's builder proposed increasing beam of the ship during construction(as they already had an idea the ship would be unstable), but the King rejected the proposal. Furthermore, a test done after completion of the ship(soldiers on the top deck moving from one beam of the ship to the other...

Vasa went down more because of being a failed project than because of the weather, but yes. BTW, I've been to, and reccomend, visiting the Vasa Museum if you have the opportunity.

It can, yes. But it's way less 'sensitive' than the F-35.

The big problem with the ex-Foch was that she was in real bad condition when she was sold in 1997-8, with highlights being a propeller shaft that needed replacement, and heavily used steam systems(both catapult and propulsion) - France knew exactly what she was selling, and sold her cheap...

What I've heard about this one is the problem is specifically on the AIP system. The Thais want a German AIP system, and as said above, the Germans refuse to deliver it to China. The solution would be fitting the system in Thailand after completion of the sub, but that increases the price of the...

Makes some sense. They have all the failings of the LCS, while not having the huge helideck of the Independence Class.

Mind you, this is just for the sonar. But even if the total repair costs 100 million, it would still be way cheaper than the worst possible case(which is constructive total loss).

These were, if they were 37mm guns, almost certainly the Mle.1925 AA gun - a manual loading gun with a practical ROF of 15-21 shots/minute. Wikipedia says they had the wz.28 AA gun(2-pdr Pom-Pom), but they(and the sources quoted) may have got it wrong. EDIT: Looking around, I found out both...

Historically, Japan got their hands on the Bofors when they captured Singapore, but they only managed to produce prototypes of the Japanese model by 1945(something that is a bit surprising - the Bofors was well-suited for Japanese industrial processes, being a gun that was largely hand-built)...

I agree somewhat with the general gist of the video(the Type 96, like many of the Japanese weapons, wasn't bad by early war standards), but I do think he overstates is point; it wasn't that bad at the time, but it wasn't as good as he seems to think it is. The IJN would have been better served...

I've been at that fort. Unfortunately, I missed the guided tour, so I didn't see the torpedo battery. One thing to keep in mind is that the Oslofjord channel is really narrow there(I'd estimate it being some 300m/1,000 feet or less), so the Norwegians were shooting 255kg/562 lbs shells at...

I think that the biggest problem in expanding the Royal Navy isn't money, it's personnel - they have trouble having enough people enlist, as far as I'm aware.

Naah, the Sri Lankans have a few large(2,500-3,500 T range) OPVs. That's just the welcoming committee for a Russian ship.

The Tegethoffs were pretty flawed ships, mainly because they were too small for what they carried. Not only protection(in general) was bad(both desgn and building flaws), they also had poorly-designed ventilation systems for their main gun turrets; IIRC, if the ships spent more than 15 minutes...
