What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Tanks, trucks, aircraft, and radio. Lower troop density. East was so big that outside some critical areas it was hard to achieve a densely manned front as well as continual coverage. With more gaps and chances to more easily smash through without ready enemy reserves things stayed more mobile.

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Sadly true. Cadorna was his name. Luigi Cadorna - Wikipedia

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

I don't have time to respond to everything, but I can answer this relatively quickly now: Assuming that were possible (many ifs here) for attacks to continue in 1915 if the CPs were able to maintain pressure rather than having to take an extended pause to transfer forces to defeat Serbia (which...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Especially on the Entente side generals were not selected for competence pre-war...or really during the first half of the war. By 1916 the good generals had been identified, but then the CPs had learned too, so good or not the limitations in technology made the attack much tougher than the defense.

Never attribute to malice what can be explained by sheer stupidity. Or inability to carry something out.

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Ethnic Germans, but they were actively trying to be more Russian than the Russians due to all the anti-Germanism in the country during the war and to maintain their positions. Also they weren't in charge of the food deliveries to St. Petersberg AFAIK. The Tannenberg defeat was supposedly...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

What? First I'm hearing that the Russian upper class supported Germany. The food crisis was caused by the break down in the rail system due to overuse and underinvestment and peasants hoarding grain because the government was forcing them to sell it for too little. It wasn't so much a problem...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Not really, the problems in Russia were more food and civilian related. That spilled over into the army, which soldiers were worried for their families.

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

AFAIK the thing that changed was the massive arrival of American soldiers and Petain's rehabilitation program that promised no more offensives until the US showed up in force.

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Refusal to attack and in some cases even to fight without negotiation efforts. Why do you think an invasion of Tunis or Corsica is insane in WW1? The French fleet was busy and without aircraft being what they became in WW2 the Italians would have the whip hand especially if they focused first...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Depends on how much control they could maintain over their on the scene commanders. There was a lot of anti-British officers given the rather unpleasant recent history between the countries. Never say never. Imperalism was the point of the war. Assuming that things play out the same to that...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Just what they tried to do IOTL after Gallipoli: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macedonian_front https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allied_Army_of_the_Orient https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/gardening-in-salonika-world-war-i-in-the-balkans/ As the above states the Serbs that were able to evacuate...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

I had thought the grain shortages were a function of the breakdown in the rail system per Norman Stone's book, but this article indicates it was a multi-factoral problem that was simply inherent in mobilizing so many men and horses and taking them away from food production, since Russian...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

I should modify that upon further reading: https://encyclopedia.1914-1918-online.net/article/war_finance_russian_empire This might end up being worse for Russia, as they could export more grain to service their debts, which when coupled with the occupied grain regions and refugee problems could...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Potentially yes, but that depends on how much Romania does in the war. Same with Italy if it joins in, but as I say above in 1917 it would be very tempting for them to join in against the Entente before the US joins, since France would be weak in 1917 (mutinies), Britain is broke, and Italy...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

Given that IOTL the Ottomans attacked all the way to Baku and seized it from the British I could see that being a flash point in 1917-18 and the British maybe even diverting from fighting in Europe to try and pick apart the Ottomans even at that late date; they after all coveting the oil and...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

I haven't read this thread yet, so not sure if any of this has been addressed, but here is my take: both nations staying out cancels each other out somewhat. Russia keeps trade going with the Entente via the Dardanelles, which is a huge economic help, though has to face A-H naval forces...

What would be the impact if *both* Italy and the Ottoman Empire remained neutral throughout all WWI?

TBH it has been a long while since I looked, but according to this paper in total it was 48 infantry divisions and 11 cavalry division in 1914 plus some brigades (pp 38-39): file:///C:/Users/asdesk04/Downloads/fulltext.pdf It said at the outbreak of the war, so that may have been the...
