The Bracero Program Bracero program - Wikipedia, was a legal guest worker program negotiated between the United States and Mexico in 1942 that continued until its cancellation in 1964, being judged too exploitive on labor and civil rights grounds.

How did it compare with guest worker treatment in Northern Europe, especially West Germany, which began to employ alot of Southern European and Turkish guest workers by 1960s if not the 1950s? The numerous Italians, Greeks, Yugoslavs, Turks, Spaniards working in a West Germany are the first example one thinks of with the European guest workers, but were other countries involved as receiving countries like Britain, Netherlands, France?

Unfortunately, I don't know, though I'd love to find out the answer.

Interestingly enough, I read that the end of the bracero program massively contributed to the rise of illegal immigration to the US since Mexicans could no longer easily work in the US and thus sneaking into the US in order to work here began looking much more appealing to them.

As for Europe, I know that their guest worker programs (Turks and Yugoslavs for Germany, et cetera) were often meant to be temporary but ultimately often didn't turn out that way:
