Italy hasn't been saved. We saw how all the supranational powers-that-be exerted pressure on them when Salvini was actually largely running things and, you know, upholding the law. That's nothing compared to the pressure cooker they'll get going for Meloni. There's not a trick in the book dirty enough that they won't use against her. Just watch. Twelve months and her coalition will come apart at the seams because Brussels and others will wave so much carrot and stick in front of the principal players that greed and animosity will win.

Conservatives Take Power

This is definitely a swing to the right for Italy.

Do you think it can endure in the face of bureaucratic pressure from inside Italy as well as from its neighbors and the EU?

Will the new Prime Minister get stabbed by their own Leftists like happened to Trump?

Or is this swing going to the beginning of the sea change for Europe?
She'll end up exactly like Trump in that she will achieve nothing of substance and end up betraying her voters on virtually every front.

I think your particially correct, I don't think she will be able to do much, but she will lay the ground work for more populist revolts in Italy and the EU will end up losing more legitimacy in the eyes of the people who live there. So in the short term no she's not able to do much.

In the long term it sets off another domino, it means that a lot more resources and effort has to go into holding people down and if western politics are merging like I think they are? That means an establishment stuck playing a global game of wackamole.

We can hope.

I don't know much about Meloni except for that one fiery speech clip that's been going around where she quotes Chesterton of all people. That's one good sign, and of course the left wing media are trying to vilify her as a fascist. If the left wing media doesn't like you, that's probably another good sign.

So, good for the Italians. I'm sure Brussels will try to rein her in and limit the amount of change she can bring, but here's hoping she can get some good things accomplished.

Idk, Trump did pretty good by the voters who voted for him with the balance of the Supreme Court and overturning Roe in mind.

@History Learner you're pretty much off target on both your points.

1. Trump did a whole hell of a lot that was substantial.
-he showed what our economy is capable of when unfettered by govt.
-he showed the people that they have power if used to elect people that actually represent them and do what they say they're gonna do
-he showed that mideast peace is possible if you just ignore the Palestinians' demands
-he showed that you can place the US 1st in international trade and make it work
-I can continue

2. In what way did Trump betray his voters? I haven't really seen any evidence of this aside from people gaslighting that it's so b/c they hate the Orange Man.

I think it'll take 2 years, but other than that this is spot on.

As a general rule of thumb, if you start from the understanding that 'History Learner does not understand history, does not learn, and is probably holding the exact opposite position from what is actually true on any given issue, but is too proud to ever admit he is wrong,' then you'll generally find yourself in good standing when it comes to his post.

I'm still trying to figure out what the root of his madness is; best guess so far is a combination of knee-jerk contrarianism mixed with an obsessive refusal to ever admit he's wrong.

We'll find out if your predictions of her failing come true.

Trump did some AWESOME things:
1.) Peace in the Middle East by ignoring the uppity Palestinians
2.) Manufacturing, other industries coming back to the US
3.) Lowest unemployment rates among African Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans, Women, etc
4.) Three Supreme Court Justices confirmed by the US Senate: Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett.
5.) Majority of conservatives confirmed to the federal judiciary.

Was talking more in terms of direct actions, but aye, I'll grant that one. The overturning of Roe v. Wade was an unambiguous good.

You continue to prove how much I live in your head rent free by the fact I don't even have to engage you now in order to trigger you into effeminate seething lol.

Normally I don't like to re-arrange post's in replies to them, but in this case it seems necessary to set the tone.

Trump never built the wall, deportations were lower than under Obama, the deal with Purdue Pharma let them off the hook for the opioid crisis, there was no real crackdown on the 2020 riots, they let China off the hook for currency manipulation and whatever happened to getting rid of Birthright Citizenship? Other notable mentions are the lack of action in reigning in Wall Street and his "American Dream Plan" which stated the following:

Resolve Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) with a permanent solution that is both fair and just, and benefits all Americans.

Every single one of these was a violation of campaign promises or core principles he claimed to espose.

@History Learner you're pretty much off target on both your points.

1. Trump did a whole hell of a lot that was substantial.
-he showed what our economy is capable of when unfettered by govt.
Is that why he never achieved his 4% GDP growth target?

-he showed the people that they have power if used to elect people that actually represent them and do what they say they're gonna do
Is that why he lost the House in 2018 and then his Presidency in 2020 along with the Senate?

-he showed that mideast peace is possible if you just ignore the Palestinians' demands
Is that why thousands died last year and Israel is currently in an armed standoff with Hezbollah over the Karish fields?

-he showed that you can place the US 1st in international trade and make it work
Is that why our trade deficit grew under his Administration?

-I can continue
Please do, you're proving me correct on every single point you bring up.

This thread isn't about Trump!

And Trump is relevant for Italian election results how?
No. Quite frankly this is an obvious derail if you guys want to complain/defend Trump feel free to make a thread as he has nothing to do with Italy, furthermore its guaranteed to start a derail and one the staff have little interest in dealing with at that.

Please take my friendly warning and cease discussion on the subject.
