Helldivers vs. Afghanistan

On September 12th 2001 a wormhole opens, connecting Super Earth and our solar system.

The Super Earth authorities see as America as the closes thing to their political system, and decide to help it fight the vile, unfree threat that is Al-Quada.

So, they send a huge contingent of their highest ranked Helldivers to take out the Taliban and AQ.

Fight!

The amount of firepower the Taliban can bring to bear on the Helldivers would be insufficient to deal with them. And the Helldivers have the high ground. In the War in Afghanistan one of the main tactics of American forces was to pin Taliban forces with their own ground forces and then just call artillery and air support to smash them.

With the Helldivers its a bit different since Automatons and the Bugs will constantly swarm you while the Taliban are just throwing bullets and RPG's at you from range. Engaging at range with intermittent gunfire will play directly into the hands of the Helldivers if they can call in orbital support. The Taliban might be able to pull off ambushes and the like, but they did the same to Coalition forces and weren't able to wipe them out reliably. It'd turn out worse for them here I feel facing Helldivers.

The Taliban certainly wouldn't be able to mass forces as effectively as the Automatons or Bugs either. They just don't have the ability to bring those overwhelming numbers to bear. A large Taliban attack might be a few dozen to a few hundred Taliban for most of the course of the War and Helldiver kill counts tend to be pretty heavy.

Taliban are going to have to stick to the caves or whatever to survive.

The question is, can the Helldivers succeed where every single major empire of the last 300 years or so has failed.

They'll be able to destroy Al Qaeda and any Taliban military forces so the Counter-Terrorism portion of the issue would be in the bag.

I'm not sure about their record on Counter-Insurgency. They democratized Cyberstan but its pretty clear they're still dealing with Automatons and I doubt the Rules of Engagement NATO ISAF is operating under, plus their desire to bring an Islamic Democracy to Afghanistan, will work without going full edgelord on the natives.

The Helldiver's all die after running like this into an ambush

Well that's the thing with comparing IRL things to fictional things, there has to be some level of SoD for reality like you would for any other fictional setting because Helldivers 2 is a fictional game setting mostly based on game mechanics at the very base of it. It most certainly is not real life... yet. 🙏

With superior tech than the US...sure!

Do they have the patience to? Probably not.
They can just kill everyone who suffers from unliberty thinking.

The UN will have zero desire to bitch and moan against an interplanetary empire, the helldivers generate lots of collateral damage.

Fuck the story, the graphics and the game play, I enjoy that game for the thrill of watching a 380 mm orbital barrage fall down.

Given the regional track record, they fail. Somehow. Don't ask me, they've got the technological, numerical and willingness-to-engage-in-genocide-to-prevent-guerrilla-resistance advantages, but they'll lose anyway.

TBH they could win hypothetically if they absolutely did not hold back on the general population, if the other nations went full on genocide (like literally murder entire cities) evil maniacal the resistance would be cut short.

Helldiver's seem the type to be fine with nuking civilian populations so if might go bad for Afghanistan.

Is it weird thet I see an eagle dropping bombs on thsr place, then a 380mm barrage adding holes on the ground?

Yeah, I am hooked, bit sadly progression is kinda sloowwww....
And there is too much team reliance, occasional network glirches, lots of dumb n00bs and a no frigging bots.
