I would say that we've been waiting for over twenty years for the next installment of the much beloved Jagged Alliance franchise but in all honesty I didn't even know that anyone was actually working on a new Jagged Alliance game so, this is more of a surprise, but a welcome one at the moment.

This tactical strategy RPG will be the first installment released for the franchise since 1999's Jagged Alliance 2 and for some perspective Half Life and Starcraft came out a year prior in 1998. The last game shared the same release year as the first iteration of Super Smash Bros, Silent Hill and Dance, Dance Revolution.

I think I tried playing the original Jagged Alliance which came out in 1995 after getting it off of a GOG.com sale but it was too dated for me interface and graphics wise so I didn't really get past the introduction. But it was a lauded game franchise at its time and the concept the game was built around was neat in that you hire international mercenaries with different skill sets and abilities to help liberate a small tropical nation from its oppressors. And from what I was told, the second Jagged Alliance game was actually a huge improvement on the first.

Anyways THQ Nordic, the Publishers, released a Features Trailer which even showed bits of the original games in it.

It's being developed by Haemimont Games who have previously made the latter Tropico games as well as Surviving Mars. This game will also be a turn based action strategy game with RPG elements. Apparently several outlets were able to preview the game on their channel, including Splatter Cat Gaming.
