My Marvel/DC Amalgam universe

For the past decade or so, i've had fun just tinkering with a universe of my own that combines DC and Marvel. Not like the official amalgam universe where things fused with each other, but just as if both Marvel and DC existed as a single universe and always has. I do take some liberties with situations and characters, and try to draw some connections. There is a timeline to it all, not all heroes appear or are active at the same time. Rather than dump the whole thing here, I just wanted to post an overview and some bits and pieces.

In WW2, Captain America forms the Justice Society of America to help fight. After the war, super powered people seem to largely leave the public eye. The Minutemen of Watchmen fame form and take to Vigilantism, leading up to the formation of the Watchmen in the 1950's and the emergence of Dr. Manhattan. A situation similar to the Watchmen movie occurs, Dr. Manhattan is blamed for a great catastrophe and the world becomes afraid of super powered people, however in the immediate aftermath groups of mutants show themselves and use their powers to help people. Charles Xavier forms the X-Men to help the world understand they are not a threat. Magneto has other plans, and through much of the 1960's the two groups fight each other, the X-Men trying to show themselves as a force for good. By the 1970's, Superman emerges onto the scene. Xavier offers him membership into the X-Men despite not being a mutant but Superman declines, feeling the X-Men are important to mutantkind.

In the mid-80's, Superman is off world when a massive battle between the X-Men and the Brotherhood breaks out in Metropolis. Superman returns home in the midst of the battle ravaging his adopted city. He orders everyone to stand down. The X-Men do, but Magneto doesn't heed the warning and attacks Superman in an onslaught. Superman has a moment of rage and delivers a near-full force punch to Magneto, essentially disintegrating him. Everyone involved stands down. In the aftermath, Superman decides that super powered people are out of control and need to be regulated. Working with SHIELD and the US Government, Superman helps get the Meta Human Registration Act passed and establishes the Justice League of America (in a nod to the old Justice Society) as the regulatory body for all super hero activity. All super powered people must register with the Justice League.

By the 1990's, Steve Rogers, frozen in ice washes up on the shores of Themescyra. The Amazon's help nurse him back to health through a combination of his own innate abilities and their Amazonian magic. The Amazons decide to reveal themselves to the world of Men and send Diana to bring Steve Rogers back to them. Superman is delighted to have Captain America back, who he viewed as a personal hero of his. Captain America joins the Justice League and is quickly sent on a mission to bring in some fugitives, a group of young meta humans calling themselves the "Teen Titans". Among others, Captain America and Thor arrive to bring them in, but the flippant teenagers refuse. Disaster struck when Thor flung Mjolnir at Teen Titan Spiderman, knowing he could take the attack, but Jason Todd "Robin" accidentally leaped in front of it. Todd was killed instantly and the Titans surrendered, however the situation did not sit well Captain America. These kids were just trying to do good, and one of them was killed for it.

Captain America resigned from the Justice League, despite Superman refusing to accept it. He was soon approached by Batman, who had already become disassociated with the League and was not incensed over the killing of Todd. The two decided to form an underground, counter force to the Justice League, in a way to avenge Jason Todd. Captain America agreed the name "Avengers" was fitting. While an illegal operation, the Avengers became well funded through donations by Wayne Enterprises, LexCorp and the Kingdom of Wakanda. Eventually, while never officially recognized, the Justice League dropped active pursuit of the Avengers and allowed them to operate. The League remained the premier hero organization, but the Avengers also attracted heroes as an alternative. The Meta Human Registration Act was amended to allow non-Justice League organizations to exist as regulatory bodies. Soon after, Vought International unveiled a superhero team of their own to counter both, focusing on the glitz and glamour of it all.

Boy that's going to be a heady mix!

I had to run there, meant to put a bit more in there.

That's the general background of what's going on. Here are just tidbits of things.

JLA and Avengers have an adversarial relationship. JLA tends to get the real heavy hitters, Avengers tends to get lesser-powered heroes. They will work together when neccesary. Vought comes in later and is all about turning profit, which attracts a few.

Iron Man is not known as Tony Stark, but more old school as somebody else connected to and supplied by Stark. Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne are friends and have a great relationship. Batman and Iron Man dislike each other. They end up working together when Joker manages to steal an experimental Iron Man suit (dubbed the Joke-O-Matic) and discover each others identities in the process.

Bane is a major Captain America villain. Venom was an attempt a recreating the super soldier serum, and Bane is convinced the key to stabilizing it is within Cap's blood.

Deadpool was a product of Weapon X, cloned from the lost-eye of Deathstroke and augmented with the mutant gene.

In a version of Endgame mixed with some kind of Infinite Crisis, Darkseid and Thanos are ravaging the galaxy fighting over the Infinity Gauntlet. In a massive battle, the heroes wrestle control away from them both... ending up in the hands of Homelander. There's a tense moment as pretty much everyone involved is scared shitless. In a minor redemption moment for Homelander, as he's holding it with a fixed gaze he side eyes Captain America and says calmly "I can't have this." and allows Cap to take it.

Superman is a Coulson-level fanboy of Captain America and is absolutely heartbroken when Cap leaves the League.

Captain America and Wonder Woman have a kind of off and on again relationship strained by Cap going to the Avengers. Wonder Women felt obligated by duty to stay in the Justice League.

Lex Luthor is less publicly villainous, and is a huge financial backer of the Avengers, specifically as a means to piss off Superman.

And he's probably helping Captain America wooo Wonder Woman from the JLA.

I could definitely see him being on Team Cap here, again not because he cares, just because it irks Superman.

EDIT

There's alot to-do about attempts to recreate the Super Soldier Serum. It's a common thread that can connect a bunch of things. Compound V is one of them, although the idea with that was to try to fill in the gaps with an artificially created mutant x gene. The specific cocktail that Homelander gets is some bastardized attempt that also got mixed with some of Superman's DNA. He got a one-of-a-kind version. Later Compound V mostly boils down to being an artificial mutant gene.

Not all of Vought's heroes are made by V. They have meta humans from various origins on the payroll alongside their own creations. Booster Gold seemed like an obvious Vought hero. I think a direct bolt-on of the Squadron Supreme as Vought heroes is kind of funny... down to getting embroiled with some legal battles over trademarks and likenesses.

A note I forgot to mention, Galactus is one of Superman's main adversaries as it was Galactus was who responsible for the destruction of Krypton.

Lobo is kind of an associate of the Guardians of the Galaxy. They're on mostly friendly terms but Lobo isn't the type to actually join a team.

Darkseid and Thanos have been locked in a war with each other for as long as anyone knows. It's the dominating aspect in space, damn near everything revolves around their war and it tends to spill over into various groups territory. The Green Lanterns spend a good deal of their time trying to contain the destruction, as does the Nova Corps.

Rule of thumb is that everything exists but there are rare occasions where one character either just replaces another or becomes something of a combo. Soldier Boy, by and large, takes the place of Bucky/Winter Soldier. Soldier Boy was the product of the very first attempt to recreate the serum, using Steve's blood as a base. It mostly worked, and Soldier Boy went on to fight with Cap in WW2. Once Cap went missing, Soldier Boy was still alive. Without Steve's blood, they couldn't make more serum. They tried to use Soldier Boy's but it was too diluted, it didn't work. Over time, it was documented that Soldier Boy developed mental health issues determined to be caused by the serum. One of the effects he got was that he apparently aged incredibly slowly. Soldier Boy was captured in the 1980's by the Soviets and experimented on, becoming an unstable weapon able to be manipulated by them. Eventually, Soldier Boy was able to break free from his programming but was even more mentally unstable than he was. He remains a loose cannon, usually on the side of good but prone to outbursts. Superman keeps a close eye on him under League jurisdiction.

I found an old write up I did. I had forgotten about my Civil War analogue.

The build up to is the "death" of Superman, coming about as he sacrificed himself in the whole Infinity Gauntlet Crisis. Superman undid "The Blip", essentially using the Gauntlet to trade himself for everyone else.

SHIELD falls shortly after the death of Superman, as all manner of corruption is exposed coming from various angles. Along with SHIELD being gone and Superman dead, the Justice League disbands. The Avengers are still going strong, the new teams from Vought are picking up alot of slack.

Something akin to the events of the first Avengers movie happen with an invasion from Apokolips (Darkseid is pretty pissed that Earth ruined the whole Infinity Gauntlet thing). There's a separate, cosmic crisis going on that many of the heroes are off dealing with, leaving mostly the Vought teams to deal with it. They do, "The Seven" emerge out of the victory and with no Superman in the picture, Homelander takes a spot as the worlds premier super hero and "The Seven" largely take the limelight that the JLA had previously had. The Avengers have no desire for the spotlight and are just committed to doing good, and during this period become much less organized and structured. The Avengers becomes more of an idea than an organization.

At some point later, Superman returns. As fate would have it, he didn't "die". The Gauntlet sent him elsewhere in the multiverse, and Superman had spent the past few years tearing his way through various universes to get back. When he returns, the world is a different place. Once again, it seems to him that meta humans are running amok. Vought is well organized but seems to be almost making a mockery of what the JLA once was. The Avengers are disorganized. The order the world enjoyed with the JLA as it's protector seemed to be slipping away fast and Superman was determined to correct that, once again.

Superman actually initially approaches the Avengers, proposing he could take over leadership and reorganize them into a more orderly force, become a new Justice League. Captain America declines, enjoying the freedom the Avengers have created. Superman then puts out a call to reform the JLA, and some his old allies respond. This time, they need to do it without SHIELD support, but there was no reason they couldn't do it on their own.

The "Civil War" starts over the now three competing schools of thought for how meta humans operate. Superman and his band wants a return to the more ordered and organized JLA. Things may have been fine, except that now that Superman was back and a new iteration of the JLA had formed, they decided on their own that things should go back to way they were... that the JLA was to be the organization for all meta human activity. Many saw people Superman as an authoritarian, but he only saw himself as doing what was best for the world and the best way to protect the most amount of people. Things were absolutely out of control, the world needed the organization. It was the drive to reassert control that led to conflict among the meta humans of the world. Some agreed with Superman, things were out of control and there needed to be a central organization to deal with all of it. Some agreed with Captain America, that the freedom to operate as one saw fit in the name of good was more beneficial for the world. And there was the third option, the Vought option... they wanted the glitz, glamour and most importantly, the money.

Note:

When I wrote that part, I was toying with expanding beyond straight Marvel and DC (the the obvious The Boys addition as well), and I had written the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into my Civil War section. That was a half baked idea but I still like it. They're primary nemesis would be Kingpin, but they would be tied in with the various ninja/martial arts heroes and such. The Mutagen is basically an alien hybrid of Compound V.

It wasn't entirely intended, but it seems like this world absolutely goes to shit over the super soldier serum.

There is a bit of a Marvel bent to this... admittedly i'm more of a Marvel fan. I need to get into some more DC stuff to get some better connections going.
