As the thread title says, this is a thread about technologically advanced civilizations deciding to give some primitive-r species or even humans of an older time, tech boosts which increase their life expectancy and turn them into military powers

Even maybe use them as warriors or mercenaries

yanzak on SB had his MC in his Warhammer/Supreme Commander fic turn a bunch of tribals into dangerous highly advanced fighters after some information uploads and enhancements. Surprisingly they still kept their old cultural practices like sacrificing animals to their ancestors and having tattoos for warriors. The MC got other new “Cybrans” by getting both Imperial, Mechanicus and non-discovered humans in need of a rescue.....there were still strangely a large number of religious fanatics post-enhancement

Do you want Krogan or Yahg?

Whichever is the less threatening and dangerous of a species and less able to destroy you with the tools, knowledge and infrastructure you gave them

I like the idea of a Galactic Empire being made because humans ended up becoming mercenaries for multiple alien species after being uplifted and speead across the galaxy for sheer combat prowess

Both proved to be very bad ideas. As is generally removing the constraints on something or someone to prevent them running rampant.

Sci-fi is all about cautionary tales, though, so it could make a very good story.

Yeah, still somehow seeing said “bad idea” follow through is somehow “funny” to me

Like giving a caveman modern day clothes, an education, tools and finding he got an A+ and expected him to be pretty pacifistic. Only to find that he’s now a Mob Boss with a penchant for smashing peoples brains out

Sigma Iota II.

Essentially, it's the flip side of the Prime Directive. It's not just about destroying a primitive society, it's about the consequences of introducing that society to a modern universe to the universe.

Sounds like if they were ever steered back, they could end up as a bunch of space mobsters

Though, I think practicality would lessen the insanity

It's somewhat in the background of an 'Island in the sea of time' story, but SM Sterling's Nantucket novels have this rough idea as a running theme throughout them with the modern-day residents of Nantucket having to share technology, cultural values, and stuff as basic as work-schedules with the bronze-age people weird, time-travel shenanigans result in them sharing a world with. Or, in the case of the villains, using the bronze-age people as cannon-fodder for wars of conquest and domination.
