The LARP Thread

I wanted to discuss LARPing, of Life Action Role Playing. I haven’t LARPed in a while, but I really enjoy it. Recently, my husband and I, along with another geeky couple we’re friends with, have been trying to organize two different LARP projects. One is a big LARP party that would have a medieval fantasy setting and would involve boffer fighting, along with camping in the woods. The other game we want to organize is a Vampire: the Masquerade LARP which would happen at a local gaming store and would hopefully be recurring.

I love vampire, but haven’t played in a LARP with it in a decade. I enjoy the political aspects of the game. Though the fantasy costuming aspects of the other LARP appeal to me a lot as well.

Does anybody have any good or bad experiences LARPing that they would like to talk about? Costume or prop resources that you like?

I've had too few experiences for there to be anything really outstanding from "the norm" (whatever that might be), though I'd really love to get back into it. It's been, uh, probably ten years or so since my last con, which was Mythodea, but I just can't seem to find the time to get back into the hobby.

I did a True Dungeon larp at gencon last month...can't say I'm a fan, mostly because they managed to add microtransactions to it and.....yeah.
