The Three Gorges Dam Collapses

Obviously tens of millions are displaced and likely hundreds of thousands, if not millions dead, However, what would be the Political Backlash of such a Catastrophe Entail? I'll go first.

The Chinese People gain distrust in the chinese peoples eyes, and many countries send relief aid to the nation. Obviously most of it would be seized by the Chinese Govt, which would lead to more Unrest. America is one I struggle with, as a Democratic president would use this as a chance to suck up to the Chinese, while a Republican one would use this as a chance to kick them while they're down and ban imports from China, getting companies to shift to India instead. Both would be a make or break for China, because a Democratic President would be a gold mine, while a Republican President would be the final hammer on the coffin.

Of course, this would be my opinion. What's yours?

Depending on how the dam breaks, it could simply displace people or kill tens of millions of people. 50 to 75 Million people live down river from Three Gorges Dam. If it breaks catastrophically then a lot of those people are going to die. Either way China is in for some very rough times short to mid term after the collapse of the Dam. There is a lot of speculation it very nearly broke in July at the height of the rainy season.

I'd say mid-long term as the rebuilding would cost a fortune that would take years to drum up. Year's that the aging nation simply doesn't have if it wants to become the literal empire it wants to be.
