Above video explains it well on the case of the Little Mermaid. Reason why woke media sucks is because the entire Woke ideology is not about equality and values - it is about egocentrism and destruction.
Woke left is unable to understand anything that isn't itself - and thus automatically sees it as evil and/or obsolete. As a result, they cannot understand values that are not their own. Even if they didn't hate everything that wasn't themselves as they do, they would still be unable to make a proper adaptation or anything artistic, because they simply cannot understand anything that isn't Das Kapital and The Communist Manifesto. If something has values that are anything but progressive, to the Left it could then have no values at all - Leftists are simply incapable of seeing them.
Not only are they unable to understand, but they don't want to even make an effort. To the left, their values are the only correct values, and thus the only that should be included. All other values are judged through their own: hence why the Little Mermaid is considered sexist by the Woke Left. They don't understand the beauty of love, because they themselves are incapable of love: rather, they see the Mermaid basically selling herself into slavery by giving up life undersea for the sake of the prince. The Woke Mermaid meanwhile is the story of egocentrism: it is all about "her", her desires and what she wants. In general, Left sees its values as not only correct, but also universal and unopposable.
Moreover, they see the media as nothing but a vessel for political propaganda. Nothing can be apolitical: even if it is not openly political, it will still reflect values of people and society that had produced it. And to the Left, this means that literally every piece of media out there is a piece of political propaganda. And because anything not woke is automatically evil, and all good Leftists fight against evil, this means that the Left has to re-imagine literally every single piece of media out there to reflect their own values. Everything has to reflect the Left, their ideas, values and interests. This is the reason why Leftist characters are basically self-inserts: between Left's egocentrism and need for media to be a vessel for The Message, they cannot be anything else.
Problem here is that the modern, Woke left has no values. Or rather, it has no positive values: all their values are negative. They have nothing worth fighting for; rather, wokeists only see things worth fighting against, and whatever values they may appear to have - e.g. LGBTQWERZYTG an so on - are merely a byproduct, or rather, a tool of their campaign against anything positive. But this is an issue. It means that they do not construct, they only destroy, and leave devastation behind. Moreover, because Woke value set is exclusively negative, they are always seeking a war to fight: always on the lookout for something, anything to destroy. That is the reason why the Left is so aggressive: without values to negate and destroy, woke Left literally cannot exist.
This is what makes them literally worse than tyrants. Traditional tyrants merely want power and to rule: they will kill and destroy if they have to, but destruction and murder is not their sole purpose. When they achieve their goal - usually control - they stop, or at least scale back, the terror. This has happened with literally every tyrant that had lasted for more than a few years. Not so with the Woke left: for them, destruction is the purpose, and the only purpose they have at all. And many if not most of them see that destruction as beneficial and benevolent: it is for people's own good, and thus anyone opposing it is ignorant at best, evil at worst. Anyone who has a differing opinion must be reeducated or isolated.
It is for this reason that they are incapable of understanding the traditional media. The Little Mermaid, Lord of the Rings, even Star Trek - all of these are about positive values, about protecting and/or gaining something, about giving to the world. But the Woke Left does not understand this, and so when they try to make a remake or reimagining, they cannot do anything but rip out the soul of the work, leaving a gaping nothingness in its wake. All their works are about destruction: but what is to be gained in the meaningless destruction, in nihilistic negation of human nature as an artist?
