YouTube pulls video of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis having a roundtable discussion with various medical professionals for violation of YouTube's terms of use policy regarding medical misinformation. In a statement, YouTube Spokesperson Elena Hernandez stated: “YouTube has clear policies around COVID-19 medical misinformation to support the health and safety of our users. We removed AIER’s video because it included content that contradicts the consensus of local and global health authorities regarding the efficacy of masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We allow videos that otherwise violate our policies to remain on the platform if they contain sufficient educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic context. Our policies apply to everyone, and focus on content regardless of the speaker or channel.”
The content that contained medical misinformation apparently was when Harvard University professor of Medicine and biostatistician and epidemiologist Dr. Martin Kulldorff stated: “Children should not wear face masks, no. They don’t need it for their own protection and they don’t need it for protecting other people, either."
Another medical misinformation statement highlighted by YouTube came from Stanford University physician and epidemiologist and Director of Stanford's Center for Demography and Economics of Health and Aging Dr. Jay Bhattacharya who stated this quackery: “I think that the masks in schools, there’s no scientific rationale or logic to have children wear masks in schools.”
According to current WHO guidelines, children under five do not need to wear a mask and children between the ages of 6 to 11 should wear a mask where there is a risk of widespread transmission or lacking adult supervision.
