Former Vice President Mike Pence's latest campaign announcement was palled by a onetime advisor's new alignment, complete with a scathing rebuke on "style unworthy of the Presidency."
The recently heckled Pence took another blow in optics as his own former National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. (Ret) Keith Kellogg announced his endorsement for the 2024 presidential race. Unfortunately for the vice president's team, the support was for leading critic and primary frontrunner, former President Donald Trump.
Taking to Truth Social in a lengthy statement, Kellogg began, "I've worked alongside many leaders in my years of service to this Nation. Among them, President Donald J. Trump stands apart as a figure of unwavering determination, a deep vision for America, and the courage to take a stand where others wilt. His bold and dramatic leadership style during his Presidency resulted in significant achievements for our country."
"For a period of time in the White House, I served as the National Security Advisor to Vice President Pence. While I respect his service to our Nation, I must express my disappointment in his recent actions regarding President Trump," lamented the general. "It is not the decisive leadership that we have seen from President Trump."
"Where President Trump is bold and unafraid to challenge the status quo, Pence has often chosen the passive route, avoiding confrontation," Kellogg ripped. "This lack of assertiveness, combined with an overreliance on failed political consultants like Marc Short, has demonstrated a [laissez-faire] leadership style unworthy of the Presidency."
"While President Trump has consistently put America first, prioritizing our citizens, our economy, and global standing, Pence's actions have often seemed more focused on political maneuvering and maintaining his image. That is not what Republican voters want. President Trump's dedication to the prosperity and security of the United States is unwavering, as is his vision for the future," insisted the former advisor.
The statement from Kellogg came ahead of Pence's campaign informing Fox News that they had satisfied the requirements to qualify for the first GOP primary debate scheduled for Aug. 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
"The former vice president's political team said they reached out to inform the RNC that Pence had qualified and spotlighted that they were the first campaign to submit their numbers for the national party committee's verification process," Fox News reported.
Spokesman for the campaign Devin O'Malley remarked, "Mike Pence made quick and easy work of the donor threshold, and he's looking forward to substantive debate about the issues important to the American people. Hopefully former President Trump has the courage to show up."
In addition to polling over one percent on several national polls and receiving donations from over 200 unique contributors in more than 20 states, candidates are expected to garner donations from no less than 40,000 individuals to qualify under the Republican National Committee's guidelines.
Pence's team said that they had been earning an average of 1,000 new donors a day and had doubled the 20-state minimum.
As a result, Pence became the eighth candidate to qualify alongside South Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former ambassador Nikki Haley, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and former President Donald Trump who has yet to announce whether or not he will be participating.
Though he had remained cordial for some time, the president recently ramped up his commentary on Pence in connection with the federal indictment pertaining to Jan. 6. Trump had said ahead of his latest arraignment, "I feel badly for mike Pence, who is attracting no crowds, enthusiasm, or loyalty from people who, as a member of the Trump Administration, should be loving him."
To the president's point, Kellogg closed his endorsement by stating, "I believe in the future President Trump envisions. A future that demands bold and decisive leadership, something we have seen in President Trump but not from the former Vice President."

I won't be surprised is Manchin runs as IND for his seat from here out, but not sure I see him running as president, for this term at least.
