Aliens and Predators Franchise Megathread

I'm still unclear on xenomorph castes besides standard and queens. As far as I thought I understood it, there were normal xenos, as seen in the first movie and queens, with the difference being that queens were bigger, had a more crownlike ornate head and extra pair of arms and laid eggs, standard xenos would metamorphosize into queens if there wasn't already a queen present and if two queens met or metamorphosed at the same time, they'd fight to the death and queens automatically asexually self-impregnated. Where's everyone getting everything else from?
That's a valid interpretation of the canon, of course there's EU material wherein the xenomorph takes traits from its host, resulting in mutations such as a Mantis Alien, Ape Alien, Snake Alien, etc. and there's also "pure-bred" xenomorphs such as Praetorians seen in the AVP universe, which are the ones that transition into Queens (in the EU, anyway).

Okay so the adult castes from the four movies in order of appearance.
-Drone ('fresh' young alien)
-Warrior (older drone which sheds it's dome covering and is more aggressive/stronger)
-Queen (Reproductive caste, big eggsack, crest, the works)
-Runner/"The Dragon" (born from a dog or ox, fast, overly aggressive, nasty, no back-tubes)
-Cloned Queen (The same puppet mold as the Aliens Queen, mostly the same except she grows a womb)
-Cloned Drones (digitigrade, spits acid, looks meaty and not bio mechanical)
-"Newborn" alien (big fucking weird thing that gets sucked into space)

Common aliens in further media are as follows
-Praetorian (further stage of drone/warrior life, looks similar to Queen, very tough and often serves as 'royal guards' for the queen)
-Crusher (Praetorian version of the Runner)

More types show up but usually they're one-offs

The exact process of 'how does queen get made?' is kind of vague to this very day, but the main ways that pop up are as follows.
1: Royal/Queen facehugger implants person with queen embryo
2: Alien molts into Praetorian, which then turns into Queen

We never actually see more than one Queen in the larger medias of Aliens, but over three are found in Aliens Dark Descent. So they CAN get along just fine, if they have a bit of space.

Queens do not need to be impregnated apparently, for a race of sex-monster rapists the Xenos don't actually have any junk.

Has anyone else seen Darkus Marque's fanfilms?

I just saw the first video and at first I was like... Oh I like the idea but it looks pretty janky and the like.

But then it started picking up in pace and I was all in. Skimmed the comments and was really impressed that he apparently did this off of his laptop. I like how he just chose video game assets from games he liked instead of fitting with the Alien setting as well. I dug it actually. Made them seem like a bunch of random mercs thrown together using models and assets from Mass Effect, Spec Ops: The Line, Resident Evil, Bulletstorm and I guess according to the credits Lost Planet 3, and something called Afterfall Insanity.

Great stuff. Going to have to binge the rest.

How does the Three World Empire manage to survive with the super militaristic United Americas and Union of Progressive Peoples constantly looking to destroy eachother?

Also, why doesn't the United Americas just mass produce Berserker cyborgs instead of constantly sending in under armed and armored colonial marines to die?

I don't think interplanetary or even interstellar politics are even much dealt with in the lore, and the xeno/pred focused lore that already exists is already pretty disjointed and haphazard.

The Alien/ Predator verse tends to hand Humanity the idiot ball to much for my liking. If you took any other franchise Humanity and dumped them into the AVP verse. The Preds an Xenos would be in deep dog shit.

Here is a question about the movie Aliens. Was there an in universe reason why only a squad of Marines was sent instead of a company? Because that ship should have had a larger crew.

Ships largely automated so you can send whatever is deemed applicable to the deployment. The ship can supposedly fight a space battle on its own whilst everyone is sleeping.

Yeah, Weyland-Yutani knew what was waiting and purposely sent them in under strength in order to hopefully get some xenomorph hosts.

The official TTRPG goes into the political background a bit, but it mainly focuses on the United Americas and WY Corp.

The Beserker cyborgs were interesting lore I had been unaware of.

Ehhh maybe, the setting strikes me as a "dark forest" type setting. Humans have only expanded out to around 250 lightyears from Sol, basically they have barely left the crib. Now post 2185 and the Hadley's Hope incident when the xenomorphs become something like an open secret in human civilization I have no idea what their excuse is.

I'd love a remake of 2/Primal Hunt. Or a remaster.

2 and PH still have so much goddamn potential.
X_X Oh boy playing AVP2 multiplayer after the main servers died off and the community took charge was so much fun.
Nothing better than playing Predalien and leaping like 200m in a single bound because the game was absurdly balanced. Every faction was OP in their own way...
Although sniper aimbotters kinda ruined the fun, maybe eventually they died down but it became really UN-fun when you'd get hit 100m away as a Runner while leaping.

I loved hanging upside down on the ceiling as an alien in Leadworks, and then as soon as some poor sap walks through the main area, I dropped down, whipped, and headbit his ass.

It was hilarious.

The tail whip was great, stunning enemies. The Queen's tail whip had mega-boosted damage too, 1 hit KO to anything IIRC.

Nowadays such asymmetric gameplay would never be allowed because uhh...Fun is forbidden I guess?

The tail-end of good game design was around 2007--2010 or so, and AvP 2 came out basically during its golden age in '01/'02.
These days most games are just stale clones of each other which appeal to the lowest denominator. :(

Ain't that the truth...I gotta admit Aliens Fireteam Elite and Aliens Dark Descent were pretty fun, even if they have the usual glaring flaws most licensed games have.

Oh, don't get me wrong, there have been a few gems in gaming since then, such as Alien: Isolation being an example from the A, P, and AvP franchises, but most games these days are either mobile, shooter clones, lootbox-orientated and dumbed down PvP games, et cetera.

As much as I think Fortnite is shit, at least the whole "build a fort as you kill your enemy" thing was pretty innovative.

But yeah, there's a reason why many people are now predicting another video game crash, only this time it'll be just from the big AAA developers' games that'll flop/decline and not indie/small time studios' projects.
