I was planning on watching Madame Web in spite of the poor reviews just to check it out and my partner wanted to see it for the plot after seeing how talented the cast looked when photographed on the red carpet of their premiere.
But one of my friends linked me one of those 'Pitch Meeting' videos which basically broke down the plot and it didn't just sound bad, but also kind of boring to be honest. Which I wouldn't want to endure in a theater.
With that said, the rule for Pitch Meeting videos is the worse the movie, the better the Pitch Meeting video about it because that was one of the more hilarious ones.
What really killed it for me is SPOILERS that the three Spider-Women don't even show up in costume except in flash forward scenes so they don't even get their powers in this film and the climax just takes place in a fireworks factory which sounds lameasf. Some Soap Opera villain Spider-man stalking normal people for most of the movie just sounds terribly boring.
EVEN THEN, I might've had a shred of interest seeing it, but then one of the printed reviews stated that the acting was actually pretty bad. Like they were just line reading. One thing I generally concede to even bad blockbuster movies is, the actors and actresses and stuff usually do a pretty good job acting even if the movie, or yes even their own characters, are terrible or terribly written. The fact that the cast apparently put more effort into acting in the marketing materials with their tongue in cheek quips and such as opposed to just phoning it in for the movie is pretty sad. Not even worth a good Bad Movie Watch.
Chris Stuckmann talked about this sort of Studio Filmmaking going on at Sony especially but other studios as well where it seems like studios are just meddling too much in trying to create a perfect formula to cater to Cinematic Universes or what would be good for streaming and other decisions driven by shallow marketing algorithms.
I'll probably expend my free ticket on Land of Bad or something.
