In my understanding, it wasn't the armament industry that was razed; it was everything supporting it that was razed. Basically, the factories for the base materials that were needed to make the armaments were largely gone. Also, video on French tank design during the Interbellum era: In the...

It should also be noted that France was severely depleted after WW1, so any innovation was stifled by all the requirements being based around that depletion. Why all the 2-man tanks? France was bled white during WW1, so outside of specific tanks, you are limited to two crew members max. Why...

Funnily enough, the same situation that led to the development of the BMP-3 led to the development of the COMVAT program, which used a 45mm gun using telescopic case ammunition instead of conventional case (which means that it can take up the space of a round of a far smaller caliber). ...

I found this bad boy on a forum, a model kit kibash of a Sgt. York turret on an M1 chassis. So yeah...

It should also be noted that it was made before the advent of 'fly by wire' (i.e., letting computers do all the hard work of flying an aircraft), which would make it easier to fly, and more advanced powerplants and propulsion units that we have today. We could make a better Hiller platform...

Abhorsen is sounding more and more like the Reformists... which is bad.

No, it's more like Congress (in the US's case) never liked shelling money for the military unless they absolutely had to (and, in Congress's eyes, they didn't have to until this decade). For Europe, they've got to do a balancing act between keeping the welfare stable and keeping the military funded.

The biggest problem is material science giving smaller tank guns the middle finger, to be honest. We've basically discovered EndoSteel V0.1 and all sorts of 'fun' (i.e., make offense's day excruciatingly hard) materials that can be used in armor have been developed during the 20-aughts and...

This forgets that, after a certain point, specialization is the only way forward... and looks like something that the Reformers cooked up. Basically the 6-Commando universe's version of the BTR-70 Zhalo.

Blame the Iraqis doing as poorly as they did during Gulf War 1 and leaders deciding that their performance is the capabilities of Soviet formations... even though the Iraqis consistently couldn't fight out a paper bag as a group with a map, a compass, a flashlight, and a guide... ... that and...

Please note that low-caliber autocannon AAGs have been able to defend against a multitude of air threats since the 1990s. Let me repeat that: the defense capability of low-caliber AAGs to the point they can defeat multiple threats is literally three decades old (give or take a year or two)...

The thing is, the latest few conflicts are showing that SEAD isn't all that effective when the enemy is at least semi-competent, which -surprisingly enough- revealed that you can't really kill IADS from the air (outside of artillery), only from the ground. This means that your SHORAD/short-range...

MSHORAD is, essentially, just an interim design using modified ATGMs before we can develop something that has more longevity. Stingers are getting long in the tooth and need replacing (probably with something akin to GURPS's 'multirole missile' concept, but with an HEDP/HEAT warhead instead of a...

It isn't much in terms of 'behind the scenes' BS, to be honest. The ADATS program just had the shoddy luck to show up during the literal tail-end of the Cold War, just before the USSR went *POOF*. When the USSR went *POOF*, Congress almost immediately went back to its 'cut the military budget...

Basically, the only thing holding the US ADATS program back was the turret... and Congress literally cutting funding. It was the one time that US procurement had done an amazing job in general (the ADATS missiles were effective beyond expectations in almost all categories, which is saying...

Here's a little thing, corruption was part of why 2014 happened the way it did. The Ukrainian government has made surprising strides in crushing that corruption, but that takes time. The corruption-hunting wasn't complete when 2022 rolled around.

Nope, every little bit helps, in that case. There is a pretty good video out there that summarizes the Mechanius: they're genre savvy scientists and engineers.
