I'd argue it's the regressive leftists who don't understand what the left-wing is supposed to be about, but in the end the semantics are irrelevant; regardless, I think we can all agree that if the mainstream left aligned more with my politics, than those of the regressive left, things would be...

The leftists, meanwhile, let crazy extremists take over and decide for them what they wanted.

If I may play the devil's advocate here; that's how it's supposed to work. In general, liberals want to change how things are, while conservatives want to keep things as they are. Any compromise between the two groups is going to leave both unhappy.

Well they certainly don't know their history, I'll give you that. This isn't the first time I've said this, and it won't be the last, but the ACLU that would once put the principles it was founded on, defending and preserving the rights of every American, before any ideology is long dead.

Perhaps, but I'm far from perfect; I have listened more to my heart than my head at times, often with rather embarrassing results, especially in retrospect. Like last month, when I got defensive and lashed out over my belief that Bush lied about WMDs in Iraq; not my proudest moment.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I do hold quite a few left-wing positions; if not in the exact same way most mainstream leftists do. Um, hello? I'm right here. Honestly, I think you need to calm down. You and I have agreed on many things, including our contention with certain right-wing arguments and positions, so I want you to listen to me when I say that I think you're going a bit overboard here. You're applying a moral...

It is also a fact that those same people see you and I, and everyone on this forum, as Nazis who deserve death; I don't see how giving ground to them on the issue of statues will accomplish anything other than further emboldening them.

And I am against preserving them in museums, because it is akin to sweeping the parts of our history we are ashamed of under the rug. Most people don't visit museums, but they do often find themselves in public places and government buildings. We shouldn't hide the blemishes on our nation's...

I'm further left than you are, and I agree that removing Confederate monuments and such is horrible; irredeemably so. There is nothing racist about wanting to preserve monuments to our history, regardless of what you think they represent.
