    The War in Afghanistan

Do not discount the Taliban's need to 'be in charge' of Afghanistan. IF they feel that Pakistan OR China is getting too uppity...it'll come to bloody fists.

    The War in Afghanistan

Vacuums and all that. The Taliban has been somewhat patiently awaiting their chance.

This is SOP for Afghanistan and a lot of the ME. -There will be conflict.

In this instance I think the USMC is doing the best to appear to be thorough. That way if some whiny SOB complains about it they can say, "We checked into it. Nothing to see here." That's where my money is at the moment.

Why do you believe that Republicans are less compassionate than Liberals (do you mean Democrats or classic definition Liberal?)?
  13. The Whispering Monk

    The War in Afghanistan

Exactly false. Plans were in place from Trump's time in office to use Bagram Airbase in the mountains AND Kabul in order to expedite the evacuation of the civilians. This plan called for enough military personnel to make it work, and the promise of painful retribution to any actors that chose...

What you're saying is possible, but by no means inevitable. China is one or two good mistakes away from a nasty implosion...course, you could say that about us too. And the fun part kids, is that there are multiple powers in the world trying to make that happen to the United States.

Last real numbers were for 2018/19 and was around 730 BILLION Dollars...yup, sure as shit is a lot of money, and we all now there's a lot of bloat in there. I'm perfectly happy with smart changes to the spending system to bring the expense down. Course, that's only 10% of the 7 TRILLION...

    The War in Afghanistan

@ShieldWife Let's be perfectly clear. It's not our military/defense spending that's sinking us fiscally. It's the domestic spending to buy votes and pad wallets that's enslaving our future generations.

    The War in Afghanistan

Frankly, this is one of the things that got my goat the most. I can't imagine what the dogs' handlers went through when they were told they'd have to leave them behind.

    The War in Afghanistan

That's the US. We get it done individually. We DON'T want the government to provide the solutions to your lives. That's pretty much the definition of conservative these days. NOW, we just need to neuter our federal government and get them out of our daily lives....MUCH easier said than done.

    The War in Afghanistan

I'm gonna jump in a bit here in defense of @Zachowon The UCMJ is very specific about uniformed soldiers in any branch of any rank discussing politics. What gets wonky is the brass at the top who are in military positions, but politicking b/c they can based on position. First and foremost...

    The War in Afghanistan

@LindyAF The govt we sponsored was horribly corrupt and not motivated to fight for something besides their individual survival. That's why many have run or capitulated w/out a shot. Who knows how many of their soldiers were actually Taliban fighters. They were extremely lacking in supply...
