Following the resignation of then-Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa due to alleged corruption which involved the awarding of government contracts for lithium and hydrogen businesses, the legislative elections were called in November of 2023.

The result of the 2024 Portuguese legislative elections on 10 March 2024 was the following:
*Luis Montenegro of the Democratic Alliance (AD): 1,867,442 (28.8%)
80 Seats Won
*Pedro Nuno Santos of the Socialist Party (PS): 1,812,443 (28.0%)
78 Seats Won
*Andre Ventura of the Chega Party: 1,169,781 (18.1%)
50 Seats Won
*Rui Rocha of the Liberal Initiative Party: 319,677 (4.9%)
8 Seats Won
*Mariana Mortagua of the Left Bloc Party: 282,314 (4.4%)
5 Seats Won
*Paulo Raimundo of the Communist Party: 205,551 (3.2%)
4 Seats Won
