    Chapter 14: Personal PoV's (Summer 1983: III)
  • ......"following the Taiwanese Armed Forces' surprise invasion of the Mainland while the world's attention was too busy watching the non-stop chaotic Telenovela called "The Battle of the Crazy" with regard to the explosive Falklands War of 1982 between the Argentine Republic vs the United Kingdom, a deadly war which resulted in the British emerging victorious and the beginning of the end of the Military Junta, whose huge fuck-up and miscalculations led the Chileans to exploit the chaos and getting involved with the British by launching a full-scale double pronged invasion of the Argentine Republic.

It also caused the forced resignation of that jackass Galtieri, who ran like a fucking coward into Portugal, where Gonsalves (that uppity jackass) gave him safe passage. This annoyed everyone in London and Washington. It was like a big "Fuck You" to the entire world. How that son of a bitch got away with ordering the assassinations of Thatcher and the late Queen Elizabeth II amazes me? I cannot believe that crazy, bipolar mother fucker Leopoldo Fortunato Galtieri Castelli managed to get away with two high-profile assassinations and I wouldn't be surprised if he had the late Pope John Paul II whacked in that mysterious plane crash too. I mean, that dude was fucking nuts and drove some of his Cabinet minsters crazy with his "Doing God's Work" shtick.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese President Chiang Ching-kuo took advantage of the international community's distractions by giving the go-ahead for an aggressive full-scale invasion of the Mainland by sea, land and air: the result was asbsolute carnage and deadly mayhem. After all, Ching-kuo was only following up on his late father's dream of taking back the Mainland and accomplished this within more than six months, causing the communist government to collapse horribly.

It was perfect timing because Chiang waited until Nixon was disgraced including waiting until Ford and Kissinger were assassinated to begin secretly plotting the invasion of the Mainland. By the time the invasion took place, we were sucker-punched by what had happened that the international ramifications soon opened the door for other incidents in other parts of the world.

We all assumed the worst was over, but then Romania happened when both Romanian President Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife, Romanian First Lady Elena Ceausescu were both ousted from power and publicly executed on live television with the world watching this... And I do mean, this was broadcast on live television. I knew then that 1983 was going to become a year of surprises and there wasn't any way how to see the sucker-punch coming."

  • ......"I was shocked when President Bignone gave us the go-ahead on this secret mission. It was very risky for us to do because our country was already the international laughing stock of the entire world following the big fuck-up with the Falkland Islands when the British kicked our asses and especially when those creepy Chileans invaded our homeland by annexing the disputed islands into Chilean territory. We didn't know why this secret mission was well.... secret.

It was a desperation move for us because with the groundwell of a return of democracy coming so fast, Bignone needed a distraction so while His Excellency and several others inside the Military Junta began destroying incriminating documentation of files which consisted of over 73,000+ and countless wiretapping audio recordings, videos, pictures, etc., I informed my commanding officer of the 41st Batallion, Colonel Gustavo Cervantes, who gave us the personal green-light of this very top secret mission and he gave us strong advice: avoid being spotted because once this mission is completed, we had to get out of there very fast.

I knew what Colonel Cervantes meant. And so did all of the rest of our batallion. So it was me and about 29 of us when we got aboard a large aircraft and flew out of the Argentine Republic for the flight to Europe. It was the Military Junta's final middle finger and especially putting that Incompetent Dancing Bitch in her place!"

......"the debut of Anita Baker's album "The Songstress" on 31 May 1983 was released by Beverly Glen Music before she signed with Elektra Records with whom she went on to have a succession of multiple hit albums. Despite the initial release, The Songstress wasn't received well commercially. However, in 1984, the album would be included with a compact disc and made history becoming one of the first independently released compact Discs. Among the songs in the album being very popular with music listeners: "No More Tears" peaked at #49 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles Chart, making it Baker's only entry into the singles chart of the Billboard. Also included on the same chart, Angel" was ranked #5 and "You're The Best Thing Yet" followed at #28."

    Chapter 14: Expecting the Crazy!
  • 6.6 Seconds!
    12:31 PM, Wednesday, June 1, 1983
    Madrid, Spain

Republic of Korea Prime Minister Roh Tae-woo stepped out of the shimmering glass doors of the Hotel Araneta into one of the wide boulevard of downtown Madrid. It was a surprisingly warm afternoon with the beaming sun high inside the sky lighting up the entire lane. He had spent several hours addressing the ROK/Spain Defense Military Cooperation Council.

"Thinking the writer had cooked up one heckuva speech. I'm going to personally give him special thanks the next time I see him." He said to the heavily built PSS (Presidential Security Service) agent on the left. "Yes sir, most definitely Mr. Prime Minister." He replied stiffly.

Roh had gotten to know the PSS staff little in prior months but following that crazed nutjob tried to attack him the last three months they had brought in a bunch of the newbies as backup just in case. As the Prime Minister approached the limousine he couldn't help glance up towards the building crowd across the street as they were waving Spanish and Republic of Korea flags. To many in the crowd, they saw him as the next President of the Republic of Korea in the future.

Standing with a huge grin on his face to giving one huge wave to the cheering crowd. Cheers pouring in from the adoring crowd each one with the chance of many Koreans living in Spain to see the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea.

Three quick flashes lighting up the streets for about six seconds almost as bright as the sun shining overheard. It was three loud sounds violent death rating screams in the air and one simple thud. Panic filled the streets like an aggressive plague. A leftist group supporting imprisoned opposition leader Kim Dae-jung were quickly grappled by the Madrid Metropolitan Police Department and stunned nearby passerby in the crowd, but it was too late.

There on the streets of Madrid, laid Republic of Korea Prime Minister Roh Tae-woo with two bullet holes through the right side of his head, which was obviously completely blasted out altogether.

Chapter 14: The Teflon Big City Mayor

    F7tBlpdXkAA8pDv

    San Francisco Mayor
Dianne Feinstein inside her City Hall office beaming with excitement after overwhelmingly defeating the recall initiative against her.

Having easily defeated the April 26th Recall Election with an overwhelming 80% of the citywide vote, political analysts and political observers agree that the failed recall attempt against popular San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein, all but emboldened her reelection prospects for a second full four-year term later in the Fall of 1983. According to State Assemblyman Art Agnos, he believes the main reason why the recall failed which had consisted in the following:

*The Moscone and Milk assassinations on 27 November 1978 including Feinstein ascending to the Mayoralty during the traumatic circumstances.

*San Franciscans rallying around staunch opposition to the recall, which was initiated by the White Panther Party.

*Lack of candidates fearful of running against Feinstein in the recall election due to the large overwhelming support Feinstein got in defeating the recall initiative.

    *No major political opposition.

*Encouraging voters to use absentee mail-in ballots in very successful effective campaign from the Feinstein campaign and staunch allies of the popular Mayor.

*Support from the city's daily newspapers including the city's civic and business organizations helped Feinstein easily defeat the recall effort.

Emboldened with an overwhelming and massive landslide victory in defeating the recall, political observers also agreed that Feinstein's new political strength inside the Golden City included the Mayor's successful campaign in bringing the 1984 Democratic Party National Convention to San Francisco, which made her one of the most visible women in the United States.

Many viewed Feinstein as one of the rising stars not only of the California Democratic Party, but also of the national Democratic Party as well with some mentioning her as a future contender either for the Governorship or the United States Senate in the future election cycles going forward. There were some detractors, who accused Feinstein of ignoring them; Feinstein was seen by many outside of San Francisco as part of the Moderate/Centrist side of the political spectrum with her staunch support of capital punishment including friendly with business establishment interests.

Chapter 14: Action 13's Marvin Zindler
  • Marvin Zindler...Eyeeewitness News!
    12:58 PM CST, Monday, June 13, 1983
    ABC 13 KTRK-TV Houston Studios
    Houston, Texas
    Fs5Qnb6aUAAIoWv

Marvin Harold Zindler was the talk of the town inside the Space City since coming to ABC 13 KTRK-TV Houston in 1973 and let's just say, things weren't the same ever again!

Born on 10 August 1921 in Houston, Texas, Zindler attended Pershing Middle School and Lamar High School, both in Houston before ultimately graduating from San Jacinto High School. He attended John Tarlenton Agricultural College (now Tarlenton State University in Stephenville, Texas). In 1941, following the outbreak of World War II and the attack on Pearl Harbor which caused the United States to enter World War II, Zindler joined the United States Marine Corps and later received a medical discharge for medical reasons.

In 1941, Zindler married the former Gertrude Kugler and they would be blessed with four sons: Marvin, Jr; Donny; Danny and Mark and one daughter: Helen. He would also have nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Zindler's lived in the Maplewood neighborhood, where he resided for 48 years. Following being honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps, Zindler began his broadcasting career in 1943 as a part-time night radio disc jockey and spot news reporter at Houston radio station, KATL (now KMIC 1590), while he was working in his family's clothing store. In 1951, while working with KATL, Zindler also hosted the "The Roving Mike", which was a 30-minute radio program airing on Sundays which documented on crime and the people involved in Houston.

In 1950, Zindler became a reporter and cameraman for Southwest Film Production Company which produced the 6:00 PM news for NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston, but in 1954, he was abruptly fired by an executive at the news station, who said Zindler was "too ugly" to work in television; Less than two years later in 1956, Zindler joined the Scripps Howard Houston Press working part-time as a crime reporter and photographer. While he was working in the family's clothing store and also working for the newspaper, Zindler became quickly dissatisfied with the retailing business and in 1962, his career took a major detour when he decided that law enforcement would be an amazing career move: joining the Harris County Sheriff's Office: handling Civil Process for two years and joined the Fugitive Squad where his work took him all over the world in order to extraditing fugitives.

Two years later, Zindler was assigned by both the Harris County Sheriff and Harris County District Attorney in establishing a Consumer Fraud Division with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. This division as of today is still operating. It was during this time of his law enforcement career, that he got the first taste of working on behalf of the people. However, once Jack Heard was elected as Harris County Sheriff in 1972, one of Heard's first moves was abrutply firing Zindler. And according to Zindler's own personal viewpoint, he felt that Heard firing him from the Harris County Sheriff's Office was a blatant political move which Zindler blamed on agitated car dealers who were alleged to have been rolling back odometers.

Upon hearing about Zindler's controversial abrupt firing from the Harris County Sheriff's Office, ABC 13 KTRK-TV Houston news anchor Dave Ward recommended Zindler to the station's assistant news director to serve as the consumer reporter. On 1 January 1973, Zindler joined ABC 13 KTRK-TV Houston, a news program which had been languishing in third place. And after Zindler joined the ABC owned and operated station, the rest was definitely history!

Zindler made statewide and national headlines when he and fellow journalist Larry Conners reported on a long-lived brothel known as the Chicken Ranch in Fayette County, Texas near LaGrange which led to its closure in 1973. The Chicken Ranch story was also featured in a 1973 edition of Texas Monthly magazine; two 1974 issues of Playboy magazine, which was the basis for the Broadway and film musical, "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" in which the character of Melvin P. Thorpe was based on Zindler. It also served as the basis of the song "La Grange" by ZZ Top. The closing of the Chicken Ranch brothel didn't sit well with Fayette County Sheriff Jim T. Flournoy, who violently attacked Zindler in a fight that left Zindler with two fractured ribs, along with a snatched toupee. Reportedly, Flournoy waved the hairpiece in the air as if it were a prized enemy scalp and threw it in the street.

Then-Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe ordered the operation closed, only to have it reopened again a few months later. Zindler then stepped in to shed more light on the operation, which ultimately led to the operation being closed for good.

......"speculation has been brewing for a television movie special on "Perry Mason" starring Raymond Burr and Barbara Hale which is expected to be filmed in Burr's native Canada due to lack of high production costs and better filming locations.

Chapter 14: Fallout of the Disaster of 1982
  • ......"yep, the dog-whistle attacks hammering Bradley on violent crime including blasting his handling of public safety as Mayor of Los Angeles as well as successfully tying him to an unpopular Jerry Brown basically all but killed his campaign for the California Governor's Mansion. All of that incompetent chaos happening in Los Angeles with all of the looting, vandalism... or the rapes, you can say probably was the nadir of Bradley's political career hitting its political ceiling. Deukmejian was smartly clever in using his aggressive negative advertising commercials hammering Bradley on violent crime, public safety and mismanaging the city budget calling into question whether Bradley would be an effective governor: you may not have liked the vicious and ugly tactics Deukmejiann deployed, but let's be honest: Californians wanted to feel SAFE and public safety was right at the top of the main issues concerning them."

    Chapter 14: Personal PoV's (Summer 1983: V)
  • ......"Operation Chaos would've been successful if it hadn't been for the strong divisions within the opposition inside Colombia. Quintero, who thrived off of flexing his "independent foreign policy" shtick, had suspected the failed coup attempt had been instigated by either Brazilian or even American involvement. Nothing more further than the truth, we never even tried, not once, but he wouldn't have any of it. For starters, Quintero got along with Rockefeller and Holton because both tolerated the chaotic antics considering diplomatic relations between Washington, DC and Bogota were somewhat rocky while at the same time, smooth sailing in other areas of cooperation. Once Reagan came into office, the free rides were over and things changed. Quintero watched as Taiwan successfully invaded the Mainland and dividing that country into another DMZ version of North Korea and the Republic of Korea, because the Taiwanese became a nuclear power and got to keep their nuclear weapons. He also watched as the Ceausescu's met their deadly violent ends in Romania following the revolution, it freaked him out and made him paranoid even more. It also didn't help that Galtieri fled like a fucking coward once the Chileans and British invaded the Argentine Republic back in the Fall of 1982 during the tailend of the Falkland Islands War of 1982. In light of these events, Quintero got more conspiratorial and even more paranoid...."

......"the failed coup attempt emboldended Quintero to throwing his weight around and cementing his rule as Colombia's President. However, after the crisis blew over, everything went back to normal inside Colombia."

    Chapter 14: Personal PoV's (Summer 1983: VII)
  • ......"the fallout of the 1982 Midterm elections showed some cracks in the President's political armor: the Reaganomics Economics policies caused a huge political backlash from Americans, who voted in all 51 States and the Democrats gained 37 seats in the US House of Representatives: which gave Speaker O'Neill more incentive to force the Reagan administration to the negotiating table; Republicans held onto their majority in the United States Senate picking up Senate seats in Nevada and Virginia while the Democrats picked up New Mexico and New Jersey. It also caused some awkward political gymnastics: President Reagan acquiesced to O'Neill's request in breaking up the Transportation Deregulation Act into six different components, which made negotiations more easier. When the 98th Congress opened in the Spring of 1983, Reagan's approval ratings hit an all-time low: 37% and despite dreadful approval ratings, the President announced he was planning on seeking reelection in 1984. Everything was supposed to be going through on schedule...... But that State Visit to the Republic of Korea..... Ugh! I cannot even talk about it."
-Exclusive interview with former US Attorney General William French Smith
ABC News "20/20" Special: The 11.13.83 Incident and the fallout from the Reagan assassination in Seoul
    Spring 2003

......"Reagan's insistence on more aggressive budgeting cuts on domestic spending programs including the super conservative doubling-down on deregulation continued to cause the President's approval ratings to go downward throughout Spring and early part of the Summer of 1983. The honeymoon period, which Reagan had enjoyed earlier coming off of his landslide victory in 1980, was pretty much gone. His unpopularity began to have major impacts outside of the White House, too; it also gave Democrats a little bit of breathing room because the so-called "invisible primary" inside the Democratic Party for the 1984 presidential campaign began to go in full motion. Reagan's unpopularity also was likely going to heavily impact the gubernatorial elections in Mississippi, Kentucky and Louisiana, all of whom were likely going to the Democrats in the upcoming Fall. And in Louisiana, the Silver Fox and flamboyant Edwin Washington Edwards was known for his one-liners and massive popularaity among Louisianans despite his obvious corruption scandals, etc.,"

  • ......"Gonsalves made it very clear to Howe that as long as he was the President of the Portuguese Republic, Galtieri wasn't going anywhere because he personally gave the former President of the Argentine Republic safe passage into Portugal. Diplomatic relations between London and Lisbon hit a major detour as a result of Gonsalves' staunch support of the Argentinians' claim to the Falklands. Would Portugal face diplomatic repercussions and consequences as a result? Gonsalves also noted in telegrams and memos to other figures at Belem Palace that he wanted "clean deal, but a deal that makes sense"-full nationalization of foreign industries in Portugal rather than caving into British demands by particularly making sure some segments of the opposition won't use it as an excuse to instigate massive protests against his authoritarian dictatorship. Despite his reputation as a moderate/centrist, Gonsalves was also very aware of the angry voices brewing inside the Portuguese Parliament about "giving away several industries and exports to those uppity British". He was in the midst of his second term as President and had other things on his mind in terms of his wife's terminal illness and nobody faulted him for being distracted by personal family matters; It also didn't help matters that King Charles III during a State Visit several months earlier, that Galtieri be extradited to the United Kingdom to face criminal prosecution and other crimes against humanity for his involvement in the assassinations of then-British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the mysterious murder of then-Queen Elizabeth II. Charles was getting more and more hostile toward Gonsalves and used other intermediaries by having them send the message personally. Despite the maximum pressure lobbying campaign against him, Gonsalves tripled-down again by gently telling King Charles III, "Your Majesty, with all due respect, former President Galtieri will NOT be extradited to the United Kingdom whatsoever."

......"Bishop was getting more agitated by the massive economic sanctions hampering Grenada. As 1983 ventured on, he threatened multiple times to "review diplomatic relations" with the United States and many foreign policy observers had good reason to get worried. Bishop came to power in a socialist revolution by deposing then-Prime Minister Eric Gary from office four years earlier and quickly fostered close relations with Cuba, the Soviet Union, East Germany and other communist and socialist countries. Reagan was not a fan of Bishop's government and the policies in Grenada, by accusing the Grenadan government of using the International Airport's airstrips as a waypoint for military aircraft from the Soviet Union. It disgusted the Reagan administration at the very thought of the Caribbean going full communist right in America's backyard led to some controversial extreme measures and decisions which would ultimately lead to a military coup d'etat months later."

......"Jackson emphasized that something needed to be done with Bishop one way or another. He had been holding closed door meetings with President Reagan, Vice President Bush, Secretary of State Shultz and members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and also held courtesy meetings with several leaders of neighboring Caribbean countries, who expressed concerns that Bishop was instigating a full-out attack on the entire region. The staunchly conservative Democrat from Washington was known for being staunchly supportive of massive increased military spending including taking hardlines against the Soviet Union. He told the President: "Unless something is done about that Bishop fellow, the entire Americas could fall into utter chaos. Bishop needs to be stopped right now!"

  • ......"of course, things weren't that all bad. It helped that I used to be in the United States Senate representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for twelve years and I also knew a lot of the players over there. We managed to get the Health Care Incentives Reform Act passed in a bipartisan vote of 81-21 before the Thanksgiving holiday break. I worked with Daniel Inoyue and Edward Brooke while he was still in the Senate to pass the American Patient Protection Act of 1975, there was lots of bipartisan stuff going on during the Rockefeller years, which also continued during the Holton years and surprisingly during the Reagan years as well. It helped that Reagan was a calm, positive, optimistic fellow, who worked with Tip and Byrd in order to getting things done along with Baker and others, especially the conservative Boll Weevil House Democrats, who staunchly supported for Reagan administration policies such as tax cuts, increases in military spending and deregulation."

....."for the Democrats, who were thinking about running for the 1984 Democratic Party presidential nomination, they soon quickly turned it down due to fears of getting trounced by Reagan: Governors White of Texas, Cuomo of New York State, Babbitt of Arizona, Lamm of Colorado, Rockefeller of West Virginia including Senators Kennedy of Massachusetts and Long of Louisiana both rejected any presidential campaign hype altogether. It became obvious that Mondale was already flexing his muscles by campaigning in Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, South Carolina, Nevada, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina. Everyone knew that he was running for President and so was Senator Hart of Colorado, who also began campaigning immediately after the 1982 Midterms. Something in Hart's past which was about to explode and upend his presidential campaign.

  • ......"Hunt was the most popular Governor in North Carolina history, with a whopping 81 percent approval rating. Having announced his campaign for the United States Senate against the controversial conservative icon Helms in 1984, it was inevitable that the two most powerful politicians inside the Tar Heel State was going to collide one way or another. Helms was trailing by double digits in head-to-head match-ups among several of the major polling surveys. For awhile, it seemed that several segments of North Carolinians were finally going to be rid of the hardcore neo-conservative Southern Republican Helms after 12 years, but what many in the national media didn't know, was that Helms had a special diet of deploying violent racially-charged tactics in order to win reelection and he happily thrived off of using race-baiting."

....."1982 was the first of many stops on the road to 1984, and among the big winners of the 1982 Midterms: Mark Wells White, Jr., of Texas with his shocking resounding landslide victory throttling Clements in the Texas gubernatorial election. And with the landslide victory, White was put on the cusp of potential presidential contenders for 1984, 1988 and 1992. It also marked an embarrassment for Vice President Bush to grapple seeing a Democratic Governor running the Lone Star State in his own home state of all places, which was embarrassing and humiliating considering Bush campaigned hard for Clements' unsuccessful reelection campaign. White was one of the countless Democratic Governors, who was among those on the Lookout to Watch lists in the future."

  • ......"It was an exciting time as Pope Carlos I arrived in Bogota. The seven-day Papal Visit was a bit of an all-out rockstar among the faithful of the Roman Catholic Church. And of course, Colombian President Lieutenant General Seymour Quintero was eager to showcase himself as one of those high-profile figures in Latin America and in turn, show the international community, that Colombia wasn't some crazy chaotic place run by a leftist military strongman. Quintero was determined to prove them wrong and Pope Carlos I meeting with the leftist military strongman showed just that!"

....."the calls for democracy was growing daily all across Brazil. Figuereido was having some health issues due to having a heart attack one time which left him somewhat incapacitated; something had to give because the Military Junta had controlled the Brazilian government since 1964 with rotation of military strongman running the Presidency. With the likelihood of the Argentine Republic heading to democracy, Brazilians watched in amazement and were encouraged to keep fighting for the restoration of democracy."
