2019 Germany to 1918

Quickdraw101

Beware My Power-Green Lantern's Light
On November 11th, 1918, just as the armistice is signed between the allied nations and Germany, a bright flash of light erupts in the geographical area of Germany. When it subsides, the Germany of 1918 is replaced with the German of December, 2019. All foreign citizens and military personnel in Germany come along for the ride, as well as all satellites owned and operated by Germany. Meanwhile in the reverse, 1918 Germany replaces its modern day counterparts. This also includes its overseas colonies, which swap with each other as well.

How does Germany in both era react to this? How does the world react?

Yes, that's critical... What goes back in time in terms of geographic extent? Uptime Germany's borders, or downtime Germany's borders?

In 1918, you have modern Germany's geographical borders. For 2019, you have 1918 Germany's borders.

*blink*

What is in the place of the territories Germany lost in 1918 in 1918, then? Parts of Poland, Belgium, France, Denmark, Czechia and Russia?

The entirety of 2019 Germany overlaps into 1919, with the land 2019 Germany not owning, being unaffected. In 2019, only parts of Imperial Germany that fit in modern 2019 borders come back.

Huh, that means modern Poland has half its territory AND to deal with the other half being way behind their standards, and the few countries that used to be owned by Germany likely being used as a warning what would happen if the colonies were given independence.

The EU will be screeching autistically though, but this Germany isn't an EU member, so they can't do much.

Hmm, another thought occurs to me. Modern China is running their own new colonialism on Africa, but in what nations? If we compare the german colonies and the modern chinese efforts, would there be conflicts of interest?

I'd imagine that the German colonies will want modern amenities in their households, something outside powers can provide.

Germany gets the shit kicked out of it as France and the bigger powers take what they want.
Most of the present day German navy fleet can’t even go to sea.
Bundeswehr:

Most of its fighters are inoperable.

  • Only 12 of 62 Tiger attack helicopters and 16 of Germany's 72 CH-53 cargo helicopters were available for exercises and operations last year; the rest were grounded for maintenance.
  • At any time over the last year, only three of the Bundeswehr Airbus A400M transport aircraft were ready to fly.

Most of its tanks are inoperable.

Present day Germany is a sitting duck. That is only safe because NATO.
Putting in a time and place where the great powers have less of a care about taking what they want. Well that doesn’t end well.

This is all public information and you can bet your butt there will people willing to sell this information to surrounding states for money and power.

The Germans in the parts of Germany still present downtime would probably just coup the government in Berlin and find many ready allies among the Bundeswehr, which tends to attract traditionalists and conservatives, which is part of the reason it's starved of funding. So everything that can operate, will operate soon enough from the reserve stocks. The uptime government will quickly fall as the remaining downtime Germans in the east use it as a resource to save their lands.

Downtime Germany is Alsace Lorraine, lower Denmark, East Prussia, and parts of western Poland. Makes me wonder just how many German troops are still on the frontlines around those regions.

By "part" you mean 40% of modern Poland, an area with more than ten million Germans in it in 1918.....

Poles will conclude that God must really hate their country. Why else would he just make half of their country disappear like that and be replaced by Germans from a century ago?
