Ok,
Am in Italy for our belated honeymoon with the Mrs. Am in Firenza right now, and just came back from a dinner that I would simply call...transcendant. A steak that was so good, it earned a moment of silence from me.

Ok, the establishment is called Buco Mario. Its been in the steak game since 1885 (Website is in Italian, but trust me, the pictures mine or theirs does not do the meal I just had justice!)

So, we began with a nice red wine, very good vintage, middle of the road, not too sweet or dry. I am more of a beer or hard liqour guy so I don't know wine to save my ass, so I let the Mrs. pick.

The appitizer was pretty good. They brought us a plate with Peccerino Cheese, sliced apples and a honey that was more floral tasting than sweet. I liked it, nice opener for the show to come.

For our first course pasta dishes, my wife had the taglarini with butter and truffles..And my god the size of the truffles! They were generous. I had Parpadelli with Wild Boar Ragu. You know of course, when couples eat, we sample what the other's having! And no, we both loved the other's choice.

Then, our "steak for one" (One with a hollow leg if you ask me) arrived. Rare and beautiful. Carved at tableside by our waiter who was an artist with the knife. My first bite, I needed a moment of silence. It was that good. It really was the best steak I ever ate.

Even the gristle had flavor. God, did we eat well. I mean we named the steak! And we agreed "Medici" had died well for our gatronomic pleasures.

Then, on to dessert. The Mrs. had a Tiramisu, that looked lovely, but can't have caffiene, so big no-no for moi. Me? Had a delicious flan. It was light, fluffy, and just melted in my mouth.

I won't say it was a cheap experience, but, God, it was good. If you happen to be in Firenza for any reason? Pay Buco Mario a visit, it is a sumptious experience.

Hawt…

I probably won't be in Italy anytime... ever... but I heard about how delicious the food there is. Whether it's the pizza they make with mozzarella that is practically pregnant with milk it's so moist or the hundreds of types of classic focaccia and Tuscan breads and the like... but since this topic is about steak... I might wanna recommend a documentary (that is sadly no longer on Netflix) called Steak (R)evolution about this gourmet chef who travels the world looking for the best steak and goes to Canada, New York City, France, Argentina, Britain, Japan and yes.... Italy.... Sardinia IIRC and lemme say.... the people he met... that steak they made looked delicious. And it wasn't just him traveling about eating steak... there were other themes on culinary cultures and the future of meat eating and steaks in particular as well.
