Half more and it'll be a million.

Buy more guns?

This is incredibly dumb, the police are now saying they won’t do their job at all, I expect a lot of robberies and also dead criminals, and I bet the police will send someone to arrest the people defending their property.

This is just begging for the founding of yet another gang. First comes "Defend the hood", then "Keep the pigs of our turf!", then finally "Pay us so we can continue to defend the neighbourhood".

Yeah, criminal groups are just alternative governments, when the “legitimate” government loses the monopoly of violence, a new one will rise to fill the void.

So I read further, they will still come if crime is in progress, but they won’t send someone to investigate property crimes and theft of less than 5 grand, this is still really bad, it has given thief’s and other criminals free reign since without an investigation on the same day the trail will grow cold. Expect a worse version of what we have been seeing in San Francisco, and New York.

Well, it will teach gun-control advocatees very quickly how useful guns are for defending themselves.

Phone harassment? I assume it refers to something along the lines of Scream rather than someone getting called a prick.

The stupidity of publishing you won't be enforcing the law.

"Hello criminals, allow us to declare what crimes we are allowing you to freely commit for the next week or so..."

What idiot(s) made this decision?

A far better decision would be 'Don't actually get out of your squad car, but patrol like crazy. When police cars are the only ones moving through town, it'll get would-be criminals to keep their heads down.'

I will refrain from diatribing about how one can't depend on the police, and instead just add one more to the 'Why would you announce this?' pile.

Like...Police resources focusing and prioritizing is nothing new. The virus stuff makes it a larger issue because of more demands and related issues, but...A significant purpose of police's existence itself in regards to these 'lesser' crimes is the simple deterrence. Announcing the decline in priority and attention being paid to those crimes undermines that a good bit.

On the other end of things...I can kind of understand it? If these kinds of calls do need to be made, informing the people relying on the police about it is about the only decent thing possible. It's a bit of a catch-22.
