Crossover Fictional Stellar Cartography

A YouTube channel named 'The Overview Effect' used a simple map to chart out various famous locations close to the Sol System from various Science Fiction settings and stories and pointed out the distances between them all based on the names of the actual systems and their real life locations, but also using some of the in lore stuff as well towards the end.

It's a short video, less then seven minutes but packed with lots of nerdy nuggets of information. Charts out the location of House Caladan, Atreides and Arrakis in Dune, the location of the Battle of Wolf 359, the Epsilon Eridani System where Babylon 5 will be located, the system where both Greys (according to alleged abduction victims Betty and Barney Hull as well as Bob Lazar) and Xenomorphs (LV-426) came from and many other locations including where Deep Space Nine (and thus the Bajoran Wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant) is according to one of the few official maps of the Star Trek verse that was released.

Who knew our little part of the galaxy was so deeply populated!

He actually now made a thirty five minute video expanding on the topic. Showing not just the ranges of nearby systems featured in our portion of the galaxy but this video goes even further and farther, including other galaxies featured in scifi.

No Star Wars of course. Very sad.

The video starts with an explanation of how dense the galaxy is with stellar stuff, starting by using the Voyager probe and the Oort Cloud before expanding outward with how large the galaxy is in plane depth and general width as well as the size of the universe itself, and our local galaxy group. And he maps it all out on a three dimensional chart!

After getting the basics out of the way, he delves into the science fiction locations! Like how the Andromeda galaxy is the location of Mass Effect: Andromeda (a surprise to be sure) but also the Subnautica planet as well as many of the locations in the MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy film series. Which is odd since Andromeda is a galaxy 2.5 million light years away and thus should be Guardians of the Galaxies... but he moves right along.

Sadly the original Stargate movie made up a fictional galaxy. Unlike the Pegasus Dwarf Galaxy of Stargate Atlantis which is actually pretty close, in intergalactic terms, to Andromeda. So crossover potential there. There's also no way of deciphering out Stargate planetary locations via the constellations and stellar drift that Stargate in universe uses. Very sad.

Anyways he covers everything from films like K-Pax to the 1992 book A Fire Upon the Deep and Asimov's Foundation series of novels. And lots of Star Trek references of course, because Star Trek. This includes the USS Voyager journey and mapping out the entirity of the largely fanmade maps of the Star Trek Universe. Many franchises are mentioned and referenced including Blade Runner, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (lots of references actually), Hyperion, The Expanse, System Shock, Halo, DC Comics, WarFrame, Rama, and even mapping out where the Race from Turtledove's WorldWar series.

And much, much more!
