I would point out that refrigerators are exceptionally long-lasting among kitchen appliances both past and modern, because they have very few moving parts. Modern refrigerators *still* easily last 20+ years, and are typically replaced because a homeowner wants a nicer new one rather than because the old one broke.
(I, for example, intend to at some point replace the generic old refrigerator that came with my condo with a new French door model, simply because I like that physical layout better than the old school freezer-on-top.)
