Does it matter?
It's a comic book character and in fiction you get all sorts of "this has to appeal to the audience" bullshit.
Take the 1963 film "Cleopatra" for example. Liz Taylor looks absolutely nothing like the real Cleopatra. The real Cleopatra was fat and dumpy. Most guys today wouldn't say "yes please" to someone with her lack of looks.
