Even then, I think the remaining militarists tried a last-minute coup attempt to keep Japan fighting, despite both bombs having already been dropped? Because even if Hirohito wasn't fanatical to the last (and in fact, he didn't seem all that bad on a personal level), it's clear that he was surrounded by bloody-minded fanatics who'd rather Japan be engulfed in nuclear hellfire than surrender and become an American vassal after the war.
Yep, some Japanese officials and/or military leaders truly were nuts even in 1945. AFAIK, the vote to surrender in the Japanese Cabinet was 3-3 after the two nukings, with Hirohito breaking the tie in favor of surrendering.
